I realize it often feels like nothing matters anymore, but a comedian going on SNL and calling women whores— calling the ordinary women he sees at the gym *whores* — because of their clothes matters to me. It’s really gross, and I’m glad Levy said something.

This. Thread emphasizes and I'll underline that this isn't condoning the AI bullshit. It's pointing out how people really have a print fetish. Also, bigger issue here about why AI companies can digitize like this for profit but libraries cannot do the same without legal hangups.

This is utterly brilliant: "This is a moment in which what we most need is the humane intelligence of free human minds. It is a time for academics and faith leaders to maintain a fierce independence from the AI industry." www.ft.com/content/bdb3...
Instead of thinking about AI itself, we should be thinking about its effects. It concentrates power; it obfuscates accountability; it further despoils nature and climate; it is a means of the wholesale expropriation of cultures, languages and lands for massive profit; and it will probably make us lonelier and stupider.

Many many people in this country cannot recognize Islamophobia because they are swimming so deeply in it on a daily basis and have so internalized it that it isn't actually legible to them as racism. It's why it's so casually deployed in a way that other forms of racism in the country are not.

DC is bleeding jobs and revenue. Why on earth are we sending cease-and-desist letters to restaurants with popular streateries?
At the patio’s closing party, she said she had begun discussing layoffs with her managers since receiving DDOT’s cease-and-desist notice.

Cleary argued that streateries generate more tax revenue for the district than parking spots. According to Gill, Purple Patch paid about $190,000 in sales and use taxes in 2019, before building the patio, compared with more than $502,000 in 2025.
