The oldest trees in northwest branch all have this kind of pattern, looks almost as if they've endured some kind infestation, scarred over, and survived. #photography

bark of an old, weathered tree, with patterns them seem like they were left by insects eating away it which then scarred over, again and again, giving an almost scale-like impression in places, and cast in soft light from the side, leaving soft but dramatic shadows in the ridges of the bark.

a beige colored bracket fungus on a mossy log in golden sunlight, it has concentric rings like a turkey tail but not as much color variation as those normally do. Resembles an ear, or a strip mine seen from above. There's another, smaller, darker growth dotted on the surface of the mushroom, hard to say if it's part of it or not.
