A little unexpected shake-up in Tacoma today! During today’s 4.2 magnitude earthquake, some of our aquarium animals were briefly startled, but everyone is safe and doing well. Most guests and staff didn’t feel the earthquake at all.

The past two months were my worst sales months in literal years...except the print copies sold at two conventions, one last month and one this month. So the morale of the story is, keep your income channels diverse and pray your friends offer to sell your books if you can't do cons yourself. 🙃

I'm leaning towards Payhip because I already have a storefront there, they're good for direct sales, they have BookVault integrations, AND now they have the monthly membership options. But we'll see.

Right now I'm solely on Patreon. I'm thinking about adding Payhip or Ko-fi (since both have monthly membership options now, which they didn't years ago), but it's going to have to wait until I forget how draining *this* nonsense was.

I absolutely resent Gumroad making *Patreon* look like a better choice, but at least Patreon backs down from nonsense when enough of us yell at it. I might add another subscription platform later, once the bitter taste from all this fades. I dislike having eggs in only one basket.

Despite the financial effects, my weekly subscription drop workload will now be cut by 60% because I'm not dealing with Gumroad's inconsistencies and broken back-end vibecode. So that's something.

It took a month and a half, several emails to subscribers, a lot of behind-the-scenes transition work, an uncomfortable financial hit, and One Final Incident, but now it's done. My Gumroad storefront is totally empty. I'll probably delete the entire account once I know I don't need tax info.

But that still left the monthly subscribers, and asking them to shift platforms was a bridge too far. Until Gumroad made it a lot more urgent by going "AI"-crazy. The precipitating factor was "soon you will be forced to use a slop agent to edit your profile page". I just... I could not even.

I had such high hopes for the platform, especially as a Patreon alternative. It wasn't perfect, though I thought the people running it had the right idea. Then things started to get worse, and worse, and I had to take my self-pub titles off because of how Gumroad treated erotica creators.

It took a lot of work and time, not to mention aggravation for both myself and my beloved subscribers, but I'm finally off Gumroad. I'd been unhappy with the platform for years, especially the increasing push to use "AI" (or let it swallow my work), and I finally... snapped.
