"Words are used to disguise, not to illuminate, action: You liberate a city by destroying it. Words are used to confuse so that at election time people will solemnly vote against their interests...[Words] must be so twisted as to justify an empire that has now ceased to exist, much less make sense."

Next Friday, October 2, from 7-9PM: a brief meditation, a die-based lyric game about feeling more, together. The event was made for arriving alone, but existing friends are very welcome. Register here: www.cometonina.com/event-detail... #queerLA #LosAngeles #Queer #AtwaterVillage #Meditation
A little closer: queer friendship, one turn at a time. Deeper than networking, slower than "speedfriending," relational meditation for connection. Freely offered by Dr. Logan Juliano at Nina (Atwater Village) 10.2.26, Doors open at 6:30, event runs from 7-9.

We are not short on queer people or loneliness in LA. We're short on rooms that aren't loud, late, structured to center exteriority and superficiality. Bars do a lot well. The kind of quality connection that would respond to loneliness is not one of them. So I'm offering something that might.

What day of the week did that socializing drop? A 2026 paper in Socius traces where: Friday nights. People don't have as much energy at the end of the week, people don't have as much money to spend at bars. journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

Where does queer LA go to connect? Time Out's 2025 queer bar guide removed St. Felix, Stache, Redline and Revolver (all closed down). Meanwhile the national trend: average daily socializing has fallen from 45 minutes to 35 over two decades, steepest among 15-to-24-year-olds.

Queer Angelenos: How you doing? In 2022, the CDC looked at loneliness across 26 states and found bisexual (56.7%) and transgender adults (56.4–63.9%) were roughly double most general-population estimates. One is a *feeling* of disconnection. Another is lack of opportunity to find each other. [...]

Seven Part Pact is coming to kickstarter July 2026 ! it's a massive ambitious TTRPG about magic, masculinity, and power. here's what brennan lee mulligan has to say about it
“If you’re a sucker for hoary tomes and dread grimoires, if your heart cries out for wicked homunculi and crafty familiars, if at the end of the day you’re out here just trying to ponder some goddamn orbs, then Jay has crafted the perfect game for you. Seven Part Pact is a vast, robust, visceral game about the powers and limitations of magic, the invisibility and essentiality of the work it takes to change/save/destroy the world, and an epic saga sung to the part of our soul that wishes to stroke our beard and sunder our staff upon the very mountainside. Take heed, o master of these most potent arts - the legend of your wizardry awaits within this very book!”

The dress Tina’s wearing in this photo is such a metaphor for the life of a survivor: the dress is defiantly loud, bright & beautiful, and if you look really close, you can see where it’s damaged & repaired, but those flaws are part of its beauty now

Players give each other permission to broach certain topics. They are also given safety tools to stop and/or discuss what's arising as it happens. I'll still include a table for resources as a narrative backdrop, but that is all. (Drafting aloud in public, open to thoughts)

Modifying @jdragsky.bsky.social 's palette grid to help drive the narrative. Bottom left, don't go there. Bottom right, it's whatever ydy. Top right, this is fine. Top left, a star, will represent topics people want to (thoughtfully) explore in the game I'm developing .

Time again for my regular rant about longevity! There's a thing that rolls around from time to time about how "people back then" didn't live as long because they just weren't as smart/evolved/healthy/informed as we are now. ("People back then" can mean anywhere from 13,000 years ago to the 1800s.)
