Nice! That's intriguing, I'll have to take another look at it soon! I know some folks who love Flashback but they're all European and I feel like they have different tastes in platformers vs us 'muricans

I think I tried it once ha ha, it didn't seem bad at all, but I definitely did not progress too much. What do you like about it?

Yeah it was really clutch, I finished the VOD (8 hours, dang!) while at work today ha ha, props to Mogrra and the OG Mog himself, and of course to tour voice for holding out all that time ha ha

Pros: it's an RPG and I love it Cons: underwhelming graphics and music even for the time, plot is insane and inconsistent, Working Designs artificially raised the difficulty but even in hacks that remove that, it's still way hard, battles every 3 steps, price for a physical copy is Ridiculous, etc.

Lier X. Agerate @lierxagerate.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

What's a game that you love, but you can't recommend to anyone? I have a lot of them, but right now I'm playing Vay on Sega CD and like, besides some insane plot things and a silly Working Designs translation, I just can't think of much in this game that general RPG likers would appreciate lol

ugh that channel showed up in my recs a lot before I blocked it. It's pure click/rage bait all the way down. Dude claims Tecmo Super Bowl is one of the longest NES games because he probably hasn't played more than 12 NES games

Lier X. Agerate @lierxagerate.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Coming back to this, now that I have it running for the most part (still gotta figure out a couple of the emulators lol) it's really great! the hdmi out combined with the boosted resolution makes PS2 look amazing on TV (of course some effects can end up spotty which is just how emulation goes), A+

Lier X. Agerate @lierxagerate.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Wow AI has even gotten to our favorite early 90s video games :'(

cell phone pic of Vay on Sega CD (by way of portable emulator) with the cursor on the "AI" selection on the battle menu

The joke is that this is merely an auto-battle feature that's awkwardly named to save space

Oh I love it NOW, it's a delightful and insane show ha ha. I just couldn't take the slow motion angry man as a young child

CRYSTAL CLEAR memory (and, just in case, I have asked my parents about this and they confirmed), whenever the Lou Ferrigno Incredible Hulk would show up on TV I would be so scared I'd have to leave the room as a tiny child

I think my favorite bit is either Mark McKinney turning around to grab the wall with both hands to say "Heard you lost your pen!" or when Bruce runs from the phone and the person on the other line is saying "Mark hang up the phone I think it's just dangling!"

011

Lier X. Agerate @lierxagerate.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

I haven't watched them in quite a while but the one I will always quote is the "My Pen!" short film. A masterpiece and it's become even more relatable now that I work in logistics and truly do need a pen "that I do all my work with"

I have completely ruined the value of this 44 year old game! now it's only worth $12 instead of $20 lol

Beating the final boss with just Gau (FF6)

YouTube video by Chris Taylor

Lier X. Agerate @lierxagerate.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

4 years ago I did a solo Gau challenge on my SNES copy of Final Fantasy "III" and it went exceptionally well. I recorded a tiny 7 minute video (no voice) of the final battle and uploaded to Youtube just to have a record of it TO THIS DAY I am still being made to pay for such a crime in the comments

A handful of screen-capped comments from the youtube section of my video "Beating the final boss with just Gau (FF6)"

They're the usual mix of advice on min-maxing, weird non sequitors, and AH-HA! style comments clearly coming from the desk of some great detective. It's not the worst or anything, after all I am male so I am hidden from the worst that comments sections have to offer, and about HALF of the comments are very well-meaning and complimentary!

It's just funny to me that I am not a youtuber, I am making no attempt to get views or subscriptions or money from the platform, it's just a convenient way to share videos especially considering Twitch sucks for that now. There's not even commentary in the video, I did not invite any of this interaction beyond just leaving the comments turned on

Hey friends! I'm live right now with another "Treasure Hunt", playing a little bit of every game I own to find the best ones! Today we're still in Atari 2600 territory, probably got about 1 or 2 more streams of that, wow! Anyway come hang out and talk about fossils: twitch.tv/lierxagerate

I learned from a producer friend that one big influence over the shift in Country to kind of jingle-jangle stadium rock is that, after hair metal fell out of style in the 90s, a lot of those session musicians and producers moved from L.A. to Nashville and brought that sterile style over with them

150

Lier X. Agerate @lierxagerate.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

I was born in Texas and have lived here for 40 years, I DO listen to Country, and I have never heard of this lady or this song and I had no idea rolling stone was still in publication until this post. All I have learned from this is they aren't paying good writers. Do with that what you will ha ha

Every post on a wedding forum: Is it tacky to write thank you notes with a ballpoint pen? 🥺 I already wrote them and I just found out about other pens 😣 Replies: Extremely tacky 🤮 If you don’t know about pens, you shouldn’t be getting married. I’m from the south. And I just have to laugh.

By contrast, here's that exact same scene from the PS1 original:

Screen cap of the PS1 version of Dragon "Warrior" VII showing the hero and Maribel on the beach. Both are small 2D sprites on a textured 3D field. Maribel is saying "Are you ever going to tell me where you keep (sneaking off to?)" Neither character's face has a visible expression

000

Lier X. Agerate @lierxagerate.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

That was a mistake, that OST could easily sneak up and murder you

010

Lier X. Agerate @lierxagerate.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

It's a few months late for me to be saying this, but since I just started a brand new game of DQVII Reimagined, can I just say what a brilliant artistic move it was to have our hero slumped over like this while getting the business from Maribel on frame one

Screencap of the very first dialogue scene in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, which shows the silent protagonist (a boy wearing green peasant-style clothes) hanging his head and slumping his shoulders in disdain while his friend Maribel (a girl wearing somewhat nicer clothes standing arms akimbo and glaring at the back of our hero's hot neck) issues an as-yet unanswered query "So that's how it's going to be, it it? You're still not going to tell me what you're up to?"

This is the same opening scene in the Playstation original and the 3DS remake, but this is the first time they actually gave our hero an actual expression to show his chagrin at receiving another of what must be a constant barrage of harassment from his doting childhood sweetheart
