Today, 16 July 2026, the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) unanimously confirmed all charges against Mr Khaled Mohamed Ali El-Hishri and committed him to trial.

Access to justice starts with access to information. For victims and survivors in Libya, engaging with the ICC is not always easy. Distance, complex procedures, and limited access to clear information can make it difficult to understand how the Court works and what rights victims have before it.

Today, #ICC Deputy Prosecutor Khan briefed the UNSC on the Court's work in #Libya, a day after the confirmation of charges hearing in the El #Hishri case concluded. We welcome the Prosecutor's appreciation for the role played by victim groups and CSOs in making this case possible.

Today, alleged Eritrean trafficker ‘Kidane’ is appearing before a Dutch court for crimes he is suspected of committing against migrants in Libya. While the case is important, it overlooks the systematicity, scale, and context of his actions.

#LFJL welcomes the #ICC’s recent decision to refer Italy’s non-compliance to the Assembly of States Parties (#ASP). This referral follows Italy’s failure to surrender Osama Almasri Najim—a high-ranking Libyan official wanted for crimes against humanity and war crimes—to the Court in January 2025.

#LFJL welcomes the transfer of Khaled Mohamed Ali Al Hishri to #ICC custody after his arrest in Germany earlier this year. Al Hishri, a senior member of the Special Deterrence Force, is accused of overseeing torture, rape, and other serious crimes at Mitiga Prison.

Last week, the #Human_Rights Council adopted the draft report of Libya’s Universal Periodic Review (#UPR). During the review, 100 UN Member States intervened, making 280 recommendations to #Libya.

LFJL welcomes the arrest of Khaled Mohamed Al Hishri, also known as Al Buti, in #Germany on the basis of an ICC Arrest Warrant. This could lead to the first trial of an alleged perpetrator for international crimes committed in #Libya since the #ICC started its investigations in 2011
