My father worked in tech in the 70s through the early aughts. One of the projects he worked on was a bear that you could connect to a home web server (again, in the 90s) and it could read stories to a kid. This is a good story about old tech, about all tech. metatalk.metafilter.com/13606/Jessam...

We had a guy in our Selectboard meeting tonight incensed that our local walk/bike/roll group isn't incorporated and is therefore (according to him) "illegal" which is why he felt ok taking down the traffic calming bollards (or whatever they are) which they put up. Bonkers stuff.

My fave used to be VT Coffee Company but they got bought out a few years ago (and are still decent) so I go back and forth between "Whatever Italian roast is the least expensive" and that. These folks are local (and cool) but often too $$ www.stonewallkitchen.com/organic-dark... carrierroasting.com

People in New England are uptight about alcohol and it was a big deal when we could start buying beer on Sundays and then I went to Ohio and saw a drive-thru liquor store for the first time.

I love that everyone’s excited about #bannedbooksweek, but please remember that there’s so much more to it than just buying or reading a banned book. Its also about people- librarians, educators, and readers- Kelly’s body of work is a starting point to understand this more.

I'm an election official in Vermont and I agree, it's an imperfect system here but goes a long way to trying to not let incarcerated people get disenfranchised. We could do more but between this and voters' guides specifically geared towards people with disabilities, it helps.

Bad Brains played at my college in the 1980s. It was known as sort of a "party school" among the hippie schools of New England and when I saw HR smoking the largest joint I had ever SEEN was when I realized I wasn't really serious about drugs at all.

I'm familiar with this scenario. This was me in my teens and 20s. Like no big deal for me, sex is fun etc. But then I'd hear from people what guys were saying about me and it was as you describe, as some sort of conquest or scam and... gross. Like what is at the core of that, for men? Nothing good.

So relatable. I work in a 1909 building and we are "letter of the law" accessible but in some ways not very accessible (bathroom door lock hard to close, lift has been broken for longer than I'd like, doors are HEAVY, shelves are HIGH). Was doing tech help at a senior living place, so relaxing.

Time for the Seed Oil Conversation with them.
Sceenshot of a handout from the Unbiased Science podcast. It shows two women talking with speech bubbles One of them is saying she's going to switch to tallow and ghee only and the other one says "That's totally your choice, just know that's going to cost about 5-10x more and won't give you any health benefits. It's kind of concerning when health advice becomes something only wealthy people can afford, you know? When we're talking about what fats to use, almost all the research points to choosing unsaturated fats (like seed oils) over saturated fats (like butter or ghee) because they're better for heart health in the long run" and then offers to send sources from Unbiased Science.
