Because Google is a grift now I don't get images of podiums. In this screenshot I get ads for the nice stands from whence behind one could give a speech such as The Counselor for $4,499 or The New Lectern Podium for $1,395 or part of an image for $51 total so probably not very big.

The main female character in Neuromancer was employed to sleep with the protagonist as a distraction while his hacking nerves were being healed because if he jacked in early it would ruin the procedure and I thought in the 90s it was sexist scifi writing but given trends it might be prescient again.
