This 🧵 is excellent advice. But I have to add this. If you know an elder using portable floor heaters, especially as their primary heat source, be sure they’re using them with caution. It’s easy with even slight visual impairment to not distance the heater a safe distance from combustibles.

Last thing…if you have someone chronically ill and/or on oxygen, your electric company cannot shut you off if you are a designated critical care patient. You have to get a doctors note though.

Comed won’t shut off electricity and the Gas company cannot shut you off during winter in Chicago. I think it’s through Nov-April. May 1st it’s over though and they shut you off!
