First CX race of season, quite a shock to the system and some tricky features to handle.

Two weeks, 1055km, five countries, two park runs, the Black Forest, the Eifel, lots of cake, and a fair amount of radler, we're done. Zurich (Switzerland) to Ijmuiden (Netherlands) done. All ducks present and correct. Legs possibly less so.

Almost called months ago by @nedboulting.bsky.social in @rouleurmagazine.bsky.social about today's stage
Text from page of Rouleur magazine

The earlier start for the women should ensure two things, though: a stronger start list (last year, for example Demi Vollering, Pauline Ferrand Prévot and Kasia Niewiad- oma all swerved it), and a similar dose of icy suffering that the men routinely face. There is no guarantee that the summit finish in Sestriere at the beginning of June won't be a white-out. I do hope not*.

This was the shot that made me think that. When animated, you can just about see her try to kick and get out of the saddle into the space on her left. However she does so more violently than she really should and about 1/2 second later contacts SB. It's all just messy from there

Overall a decent year. A bit of disruption in the second half i won't go in to, but some good long rides, our most complete tour and more time on the cx bike than usual. Also most consistent running (albeit one parkrun a week) for about a decade. @veloviewer.com

We've done long tours before, but this was the first time we've ridden from the front door and (with a bit of rail assistance) linked two different ferry ports (Roscoff to Rotterdam) over a couple of amazing weeks across four countries.

There was a discussion about this on one of the @escapecollective.bsky.social articles. This is the relevant rule, and it appears there is 1km for the gap to properly form. I guess it's a question for the commissaires in the vicinity.

This on my commute is a horrible example. At the time I pass, it will have about 100 pupils standing waiting for the gates to open. Staff will turn blindly into the car park, and parents block it to drop off. 200m down it gives up and becomes very narrow, shared and somewhat blind.

This paragraph from West Midlands road police captures their perspective on it as the people who have to deal with the consequences trafficwmp.wordpress.com/2016/09/09/j...
Cyclists don’t cause us, as an organisation, problems, that’s because they aren’t causing our communities problems, they aren’t killing nearly 100 people on our regions roads as mechanically propelled vehicles currently do. Yes we do get complaints of the “nuisance” variety, pavement cycling, some anti-social behaviour (usually yobs on bikes rather than “cyclists”), red light running etc. but you get the idea, most peoples interpretation of “1st world problems” or the “modern day blues”, nothing that’s a priority for a force like our own in a modern day society. Bad cycling is an “irritant” to the wider community rather than a danger, and maybe an improvement in infrastructure and policing may alieve many of the reasons that cause a very small minority of cyclists to be an “irritant”

Love this quote about the Pogaĉar brothers from the latest @cyclingweekly.com #cargobikes

Unicycles aren't often thought of as cargo bikes, but the brothers would even ride them to their paternal grandparents' farm to collect milk. "When we'd tell Tadej and Tilen to go fetch some milk, they'd say: 'It's too hard to walk. It's easier to go by bike,' so they'd go by unicycle," Marjeta laughs.
