The NHS's revised guidance on single-sex wards is cruel, unworkable and LGBTIQA+ Greens calls on Labour to withdraw it and reform the Equality Act.
The NHS revised guidance does not offer privacy, dignity or safety to trans people.
Placing trans people on the incorrect “same-sex” hospital wards by default is wrong and unworkable, which is why it also states exceptions for clinical need and a mention of alternative provision.
This is a continuation of the incomprehensible interpretation of the Equality Act 2010 that the supreme court ruled for. We call on the Labour government to withdraw this guidance and reform the Equality Act to end the policing of trans people in single gendered spaces.

Policy Update E30: Standing up for patients and good science in healthcare for trans+ youth passed at conference
This Motion pushed back at the attacks on healthcare for trans youth.
‘The Green Party calls for an immediate reversal of the recent legal restrictions on puberty blockers, and for the recommissioning of puberty blockers by NHS
England for this patient group, in line with policy RR 538.’

‘The Green Party calls for an unbiased independent review in the structure and evidence-based practice of gender-affirming healthcare for children and young people.’

Policy Update: The Green Way to Health.
Policy Spotlight: The Green Way to Health
The Green way to health updated our already excellent healthcare policy to improve the lives of LGBTIQA+ people. Here’s what it says about conversion therapy:
‘Conversion therapy is one of the most dangerous forms of coercive behaviour forced upon trans people, especially trans youth, and leads to depression, detransition, and suicide. We call for a comprehensive ban on all conversion therapy for all members of the LGBTIQA+ community.’

For Sex workers it calls for:
‘Regular health checks should be available to all sex workers, free of charge (see Health: HS402), to protect both them and their clients.’On Gender affirming care it strengthens our policy to call for improved care:
`The Green Party calls for the support provided by the NHS to be expanded, to include a wider range of gender affirming treatments, and for ongoing fertility preservation, such as long-term gamete storage, for everyone who wants it.’

On HIV it calls for bold action to end new cases of HIV:
`The Green Party will work towards no more HIV transmissions. This requires a joined-up, evidence-based approach, including access to the HIV
prevention pill online, in pharmacies and from GP services, and opt-out HIV testing programmes in A&Es in all areas with a high prevalence of HIV.’

LGBTIQA+ Greens: Statement on the Holborn and St Pancras by-election
LGBTIQA+ Greens: Statement on the Holborn and St Pancras by-election
We would like to thank Zack Polanski and all the Green Party members who campaigned hard in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election, including our own members campaigning to elect our first gay MP and and our second LGBTIQA+ MP after Carla Denyer.
Zack held the Labour government to account over many issues including their complicity in the genocide in Gaza and failure to address cost of living in this country, while also standing firm against racist attacks from Reform against the now Labour MP Sagal Abdi-Wali. We are proud that we are a party that stands for everyone being able to engage in the democratic process regardless of their race, gender, or any other form of marginalisation.
We want to congratulate Zack on more than tripling our vote share in Holborn and St Pancras, as well as increasing the Green Party membership from 50,000 to 200,000+ in the first year of his leadership. Additionally helping to get the Wales Green Party get their first two members of the Senedd, and our own membership of LGBTIQA+ Greens now being over 5,500. These increases show that the Green Party is a growing political force across England and Wales and we can build on this to win in future elections up and down the two countries.
We trust that Zack can deliver real hope and real change to people’s lives, including for those of us who are trans and queer as we desperately need a different direction right now for the country. So we hope the party will join us in coming together under his leadership and take the fight to Labour and Reform.

Statement on the presence of Elaine Miller at Conference:
Earlier this week we learned that a conference fringe meeting (Sunday 9am Women's pelvic health: the massive, hidden environmental cost) was due to be addressed by a notorious campaigner against trans rights, Elaine Miller. We understood this to mean she would be at conference in person. With our friends in Trans Greens and Trans Young Greens, we wrote to the party to say: “Her presence at Conference would go against the policies of trans inclusion held by the Green Party of England and Wales, and that the platforming of a renowned and vocal transphobe would represent a serious safeguarding issue for our trans, non-binary, and intersex attendees. The presence of a speaker with such a notorious history of disrupting democratic processes would constitute a serious risk of intimidating trans members out of participation in the democratic processes of their party.”We said that “We expect the party to uphold its duty to protect trans, non-binary, intersex, and gender nonconforming members” by not allowing this to happen. Sadly, as of Saturday morning, we have received no reply nor any acknowledgement beyond an automatic mailbox response. We now understand that Elaine Miller’s appearance will be via Zoom. This is a relief for many of us who are at conference. The title of the meeting is a serious and important issue relating to healthcare. However we cannot accept the platforming of a notorious campaigner against the rights of trans people. We told the party that if we did not receive assurances we would discuss with our members what steps to take next. So here we are, asking you our members to let us know what you think we should do, at conference and afterwards, to defend and protect members and to ensure that those who campaign against queer rights do not find a platform in our party. We are at stall 12, come and let us know your thoughts. Or share them with us on our socials.

On Trans Day of Visibility, our committee reflects on the day, and how this year it feels very different, in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling, among other very well documented attacks on our community. lgbtiqa.greenparty.org.uk/2026/03/31/r...
The background is a gradient of a trans flag. In the middle there is a photo with a person holding up "I'm just as real as you" with a trans flag painted onto the cardboard behind the text. The foreground reads "Reflections on... Trans Day of Visibility 2026" and has a prompt to swipe (though this is more for Instagram's sake).

The imprint on the bottom states the photo is from What The Trans!?. Many thanks again for them letting us use their photos. We also have the legal imprint: Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London, SE16 9GQA trans flag gradient border, with black text on a white background. This is page one of the statement. The statement reads: "It’s the 31st March 2026. Trans Day of Visibility. In a bygone era, it was a day where our trans siblings would rejoice, because they finally have a day to be visible. For some, it’s a great day to finally come out to family members - a day to share who they are and to celebrate joy in being themselves, free from parental or societal expectations.

This year, it feels very different. Visibility, it would appear, is a double-edged sword. The same visibility that brings us joy is the same visibility that has made us a target of vitriol and hate, and the subject of political points-scoring. The same visibility that shines a light on our community and our struggles brings us news article after news article, desperately and zealously pushing the public to turn on their peers.

Trans Day of Visibility has become talked about by mainstream politicians, media outlets and institutions, and the consequence is that the day is hollowed out. Some politicians, media outlets or institutions might have good intentions, but a deeply rooted suspicion now exists within the trans community that when it comes to trans rights, it’s a matter of when, not if, the betrayal comes."

At the bottom, the imprint: Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQA trans flag gradient border, with black text on a white background. This is page two of the statement. The statement reads: "Visibility has given us so much, but in the current political climate, it’s brought us grief. We observe Trans Day of Visibility despite the attacks that exist on our community. Some of our committee members have spent the lead-up to Trans Day of Visibility desperately trying to prevent a motion brought to Darlington District Council that seeks to use the Supreme Court ruling to justify a ban on some women entering women's spaces. Visibility was not the reason for this attack - prejudice is, though sadly visibility can mean we feel the impact of these attacks more.

As a newly elected committee, on Trans Day of Visibility, we re-affirm our commitment to trans rights. Our trans, non-binary and intersex peers massively depend on the ability for our elected politicians in Council and Parliamentary chambers to deliver for LGBTIQA+ people. Visibility itself is not liberation. We must protect our rights from erosion, and we absolutely will.

A statement on the High Court ruling and the recent guidance from the Department of Education regarding trans youth.
White background, and the logo in the top, centred.

Statement Title: On the High Court ruling and DfE guidance.
Statement Text: As an (outgoing) committee, we are looking through the High Court ruling and Department for Education guidance that have been published hours after each other.

The gist we get from the DfE guidance does not paint a great picture for trans youth who wish to socially transition, this is regardless of if their parents are suportive of them or not.

Add onto this, that once trans youth do escape from the hell on earth that will be school for them, the High Court ruling will make it such that they can't use the toilets that match their gender in the workplace.

Guidance such as this will cause irreparable harm to trans people who just want to live comfortably. This guidance will cause trans people, which are already feeling incredibly embattled, to lose faith.

We are currently writing motions to our Spring Conference, and we are having conversations internally about the best way forwards to fight it.

Our AGM and @transgreens.bsky.social Interim Committee last week voted to leave X/Twitter. It is quite simply untenable to continue as we were, in the backdrop of everything going on.
We voted to indefinitely suspend use of X.

It is pointless to campaign for trans and queer liberation on a website where the only way to be heard is to open yourself to harassment.

The photo on this cover image is of a phone with the X app open on it, on a table. The photo credit goes to Matias Mango under a license from Pexels.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQ Trans Greens' and LGBTIQA+ Greens have voted to indefinitely suspend their use of X/Twitter. Some of our reasons include:

Cross-posting content from our other social media accounts is inhibited by language policing unique to X/Twitter's version of "free speech", for example being flagged by the site for using words such as "cis" (a scientific term to refer to people who aren't trans).

Algorithmic biases, which encourage us to be needlessly controversial to be seen, and which disproportionately benefit right-wing narratives, which results in an experience that is hostile to the mental health of our volunteers and can result in burnout for those involved.

Deeply problematic changes to Grok: many news agencies have reported that people are using Grok to sexually harass women and girls by undressing them using AI. xAI paywalling features to generate deepfakes instead of removing the ability to create them is not an acceptable response to sexual abuse.

There is a concern that any media of our members (especially committee members) will be used to harass them.

We were promised a draft bill on banning conversion practices by the end of 2025 and it's mid-December with no movement. This government *must* commit to a trans-inclusive ban, especially following a report by the BBC into practices fifty years ago.
A pink background with two women holding hands. Photo by Anna Shvets. In the foreground you see the following title: "Labour must ban conversion practices", and a subtitle of: "A recent BBC documentary has aired that shows the scale and the horrors of conversion practises in the '60s and '70s.".

In the bottom right corner you see the LGBTIQA+ Greens logo and in the bottom left corner is the imprint: Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens, c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQ On a white background with a pink cross in the middle you see a statement. The statement is as follows:

Conversion practises are abuse. They must be banned. A recent BBC documentary has been released - "Shock Therapy", which documents the abuse by the NHS of LGBTIQA+ youth back in the '60s and '70s.

The series reveals that shock "therapy" was used against LGBTIQA+ people in the 1960s and 1970s as a way to try and "cure" people of their sexual orientation or gender identity. At least 250 people were subject to this treatment in 1974 alone.

It was reported at the time that those who are now survivors of conversion practises took part of their own accord, but survivors and historians are now questioning whether genuine consent was ever given. Many have said that the consent sought would not stand up to modern ethical standards surrounding medical consent and treatment.

The government must issue a formal apology to those who experienced this awful treatment, while there are still survivors around to hear that apology.

In 2025, people are still subjected to conversion practises. Some operate under the guise of religion or culture, while some still remain deeply ingrained within the NHS. The services replacing GIDS pathologize trans youth and impose barriers to care, which are conversion practises in all but name.

For a decade, governments have promised to end conversion practises. In 2025 the Labour government promised a draft bill by the end of the year. It's yet to appear. A ban on conversion practises must now happen, and be trans-inclusive. It's clear now, 50 years later what harms these practises have had on its survivors.

We must learn from history, and we must let it guide us on how we approach policy on LGBTIQA+ people. We must not let the current culture war stand in the way of doing something fundamentally good. We owe it to survivors to finish what was promised: ban conversion practises.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQI remember dropping an obscene amount of hints as a kid. I'd get what felt like unsupportive comments from my parents back then. My northern village was one where everyone knew everyone else, so to experiment I'd know I'd have been met with bullying, and my parents would know.

I don't feel it was much of a surprise when I eventually texted them. It felt that was probably safer than in person, and losing control of the situation.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQI remained closeted for almost a decade. I was too afraid to think what would have happened if I came out as trans to my parents. Even after I moved out, things happened in my life that never made me feel secure and safe enough to do so.

These days, things are amazing. I now find myself feeling confident to do things, sometimes things I never felt I could once do. I'm involved in politics now, as a committee member of the LGBTIQA+ Greens.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQNot a day goes by where I think "where would I be right now had I not taken the leap?". I shudder to think. Those were the dark times. If an employer ever asked "where do you find yourself in 10 years time" I'd just awkwardly laugh. The concept of "being around" for my thirties felt alien and wrong way back then. It doesn't now.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQThe first time I tried to come out at 19 my mum convinced me to not do it because it would be hard and I would "be an ugly girl" which really hurt me.

I [didn't look after] myself and seeing that I wasn't looking after myself as a reason to not come out. As my weight got higher my mum's words seemed more real, as my hair got worse my mum's words seemed more real. I was only living as I knew dying would be hard on others.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQI went into a panic that lasted several days and I decided even if it costs me everything- I need to do it.

Since then I have come out to everyone, I've been looking after myself and dropped from nearly 400lbs to 250lbs. I have been able to see myself and love myself for the first time in years. I live for myself now not just for others. I feel so proud of how far I've come.

One of our stories of coming out is from Jordan, which really hammers home the importance of embracing trans kids and believing them. Not doing so can be massively damaging. It's #NationalComingOutDay, and we're asking members to share their stories of coming out.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQI came out to my whole family as Bi and Trans a couple of years after transitioning around three years ago.

They were supportive of me as an adult, but the conversation brought back a lot of history.

They asked when I knew and I told them when I was 13, my dad originally denied it and refused to speak to me until I pretended it was a joke. It was kept secret from everyone else.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQA week or two after coming out again, my parents separated, as my mum couldn't forgive my dad for causing such pain.

Leaving home gave me the space to unpack that pain, embrace my truth, and finally live authentically.

I’m so much happier now and I’ve learned that denying someone’s identity only causes harm for everyone involved.

It's National Coming Out Day! We asked our members to share their stories of coming out, and life after.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQI'd started to come to terms with being trans just under a year before the day I finally actually stepped out the door presenting as a woman. In that time I'd got a job in Japan, so moved to Tokyo. I had made a trans friend who had also just moved there, and we made plans to go to a music festival around Sibuya. I painted my nails in trans flag colours, because I was gonna own my transness.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQI got to Shibuya and met my friend by the famous crossing, where I told her this was the me I had wanted her to meet two months ago. I did the most tourist-y thing for the very first picture of the real me, got a photo with Hachikou, the dog statue, before we went to enjoy the music.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQI was more sociable than I had ever been in my life, chatting to strangers in the bar, half the musicians, everyone. I had one particularly memorable encounter in the last bar, an Australian woman started talking to me, and as we got talking I told her I was trans and today was day one of being out. Her immediate reaction was to hug me, and tell me that I was going to love being a woman.

Promoted by LGBTIQA+ Greens (Green Party), c/o PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQI was in the car with my mum, aged about 12/13, and I said "I have to tell you something". She replied "Is it about Kate? That you like her?" regarding a girl in the year above who I liked. Somewhat took the wind out of my sails that she figured it out!

I can't actually remember coming out to her as trans tbh. She's always been super supportive.

An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. A brief statement in solidarity with Liberal Democrat councillor Chris Northwood @chrisn.xyz
LGBTIQA+ Greens Logo, with a statement below that reads:

Our Green Party colleagues who have worked with Chris Northwood in various capacities have nothing but good things to say about her. So we are very glad to hear that the Liberal Democrats acknowledged her with their Patsy Calton Award.

We are disgusted by the Express article attacking Chris and the Liberal Democrats. The news media are once again choosing to attack a woman for winning an award, due to her being trans. Painting a target on her back to further their culture war on our community.

We are happy to see that the Liberal Democrats are standing by Chris and their decision to give her this award. We want to see all political parties refuse to bow down to the hate campaigns attacking individual trans people and our community.

We stand in solidarity with Chris Northwood and urge everyone to do the same.

There is no LGBTIQA+ without the B, and today we celebrate bisexuality on this Celebrate Bisexuality Day. We must take a stand against biphobia in all forms.
A Green Party logo, with bisexual petal colours.
A statement that reads: Happy Celebrate Bisexuality Day.

Every year on the 23rd September, we mark Celebrate Bisexuality Day with the amazing people within our communities who are bisexual. Days like this serve as a reminder that we must keep fighting against biphobia: socially and institutionally.

This especially comes as the UK has seen a rise in rhetoric from the political far-right against queer identities, and where the United Kingdom has slipped dramatically in the ILGA Europe rankings for LGBTIQA+ rights. An attack on one, is an attack on all.

Whether you are closeted, questioning, or loud and proud: we see you, we hear you, we celebrate you. You are valid.
