Good news/Bad news joke: The good news is that the USS Abraham Lincoln is back in port in San Diego after its overlong deployment to the Persian Gulf. The bad news is that Trump says it’s OK with him if Iran bombs San Diego.

Annie Andrews, running for Senate in SC, just came out with a great direct-to-camera ad responding to slurs about her. I’m going to donate to her to help get it on the air.

LAX is located right next to an ocean beach. It’s normally the coolest place in LA because of the sea breeze. The problem with this heat wave is the offshore wind. It replaces the sea breeze with hot air from the interior.

One month out the GOP is desperately pushing every hot button issue in their tool box (from caravans to trans athletes) but to no avail. Why? The people are really pissed and want to register that dissatisfaction. They know they only have once every two years to do so and won’t be distracted.

To the “Christians” who condone every evil and sadistic action taken against immigrants because “they’re illegal,” here is what the Bible says about how foreigners should and should not be treated. You know, the Book you claim to believe in.

Forget about ‘28. If, in 39 days, we don’t restore some semblance of the checks and balances our founders envisaged, there will be no turning back.

The phrase, “The inmates are in charge of the asylum” has become a cliche. It occurs to me that a similar phrase could aptly describe Trump 2.0, “The delinquents are in charge of the high school.” In this case, the “high school” is the DOJ, the WH or any number of federal agencies.

I mean, these are the deep depths of the ocean. You never see numbers like these. An 86 point shift away from the president!"

Today, Country First released a new ad. I'm a veteran, and I won't stand by while Trump turns our Military into a political weapon. Troops don't belong at polling locations. Yet Trump refuses to rule it out. Keeping our Military away from the Ballot Box isn't partisan, It's American.

My sister, who is a therapist, says of him that he is truly evil. To me that is as good an explanation as any. We cannot understand evil or rationalize it. It is what it is, a bottomless hole, an absence of good, an unfathomable emptiness. We recognize it by its destructiveness.

Delusions of grandeur. Only three words but anyone reading them knows who it applies to. I’ve been around for 15 presidents but only one had been clinically insane.

For most of that decade Clinton was president. Obviously he had his personal flaws, but overall he governed wisely and, in contrast with now, rationally. He may have abused his power with a young staffer (Monica Lewinsky) but he was not insane.

And what is it that “we’ve done?” We’ve supposedly obliterated Iran’s nuclear program after declaring last year that it was “totally obliterated.” Oh, and we killed a lot of Iran’s leaders because Netanyahu wanted them dead.

The unfolding story of the Kennedy Center is not the most important thing in today’s news, but it reveals a key aspect of Trump’s psyche: Like a petulant child, what he cannot control he destroys. He has no insight into this and no self-control. He is impetuous and spiteful and without conscience.

Presidential races are decided by the swing states. People in those states don’t like California, or the stereotype of California that they believe to be true.

Legally speaking, this is not a close issue. Under the Constitution the authority to run elections belongs to the states with some oversight by Congress. The Constitution gives no authority in this area to the President - none. The Court should have killed this weeks ago. Better late than never.

Years ago absurdist comedy was called “black comedy.” The phrase had no racial connotation. Think the movie, “Dr. Strangelove” for example. The plot idea of the U.S. government under the control of a delusional megalomaniac would have been dismissed as not credible.

Trump’s trade war with Canada is literally insane. The American and Canadian economies are so tightly integrated that it’s like having a trade war with ourself. If that isn’t insane, I don’t know what is.

In Hegseth, as in Trump, we have the perfect union of ignorance and arrogance. Unlike ordinary people who are ignorant of something these guys are not open to learning from people who know. Rejecting experts is part of their swaggering style. They refuse to learn even when the teacher is experience.

In many states the county registrar of voters provides drop boxes throughout the county. That’s what I use where I live. An alternative is to take your made-out ballot in person to a vote center. In many states vote centers are open a few days in advance of Election Day.

I wish the NYT had half the courage Mark Carney has. For example, the NYT has ample material to do a story on Trump’s mental decline, which becomes more obvious by the day. But they don’t. They didn’t hang back when it came to Biden though.

There is someone who posts daily on BlueSky about extreme temperatures. Search on extremetemps. All summer long this person posted about record heat in Central Asia. Well, those chickens came home to roost on that mountain in Tibet. The glaciers failed suddenly and catastrophically.

Part of the explanation is that both ‘20 and ‘24 were presidential years. As we’ve seen since ‘16, presidential years bring out infrequent voters and, frustratingly, they’ve broken to the right. Infrequent voters are also less locked into party. Will they break right in ‘28? Way too soon to say.

What is new is that the political instinct has been overwhelmed by his narcissism, which has become delusional. For example, he has repeatedly dismissed Americans concerns about inflation. That tone deafness is catching up with him.
