Video Essayist Jacob Geller Admits to Sexual Assault
In a statement released to Bluesky, video essayist Jacob Geller admitted to committing sexual assault in university. “I traumatized a brilliant person who trusted me, hurt them in a way I can never undo,” he wrote. “I think about it every day.” The victim remains anonymous.
Allegations that Geller had committed sexual assault first spread on X, when a user wrote that he “got fired from working at wxyc UNC's college radio station (by myself and the rest of my mgmt team) for being under title ix investigation of rape…[he] was subsequently suspended from UNC for a single semester.” While this post was later deleted (and is currently archived on ResetEra), fans found that the University of North Carolina had publicly released the names of students that had violated the school’s sexual assault policy on order of the North Carolina Supreme Court. These records charge Geller with “sexual assault or sexual violence,” with discipline in this case being “definite suspension for one semester.”
Even before Geller confirmed the news, the media organization MinnMax, which Geller has contributed to in the past, came forward to say that Geller would not “be on content moving forward…we're in shock and deeply hurt. Thank you for your patience during this sensitive time.” After the allegations, podcast Cane and Rinse announced it would be deleting all episodes featuring Geller from its archives. Lost in Cult put out a message saying that it would no longer be publishing Geller’s upcoming book You’re Not Overthinking It.
