Whenever White people talk about blackface or any number of similar topics, I'm reminded how little they get it. "Like, yes, there are specific instances in history" -- No John, there was *an entire artistic movement built around it*. "Sure but today-" -- Your people never stopped mocking us, John.

If I were a new reader picking up a book because of a dope [REDACTED] cover and opened it up to find [REDACTED]'s art instead, I'd put a fucking [REDACTED] in my skull before I ever picked up another comic.

“Let comics be the one thing you, well, one book you can judge by the cover,” Wacker said. “Just find a cover you like and read it.” Maybe I'm being overly literal, but how many books these days have covers and interiors done by the same person?

(mind you i also hid the gay porn i was brave enough to save under "Nightwing V2 #156" because no one would ever look there, which was great until I sent my bat books folder to a friend who was interested in nightwing, so. maybe piracy WAS wrong.)

Back in high school I used to have custom folder icons for everything too. The effort I used to put into comics would make a wiki admin blush.

I haven't bothered with comics piracy in a very long time, but every time I try to read anything on Unlimited that's not contained to a single book, I find myself thinking back to my carefully curated cbz reading lists.

Honestly I've still never forgiven Brian Clevinger for the "I've seen darker wood in elf porn" line. Do you have *any* idea how many conversations I've had where I've had to stop myself from quoting that?

No compromise, no surrender, no negotiation. The lives of our loved ones are not a bargaining chip for the votes of bigots. Squishes, quislings, and blue dogs: Fix your hearts or die. Or both, I'm not picky.

You should be asking why Rockstar gets to do this and doesn't run into any issues with payment processors, while the rest of anyone drawing or writing "explicit content" on any platform have so much trouble getting paid

While I'm not thrilled about *more* stuff heading to Webtoon, Marvel Unlimited has been an unwieldy mess from the start, and building an entirely new app is almost undoubtedly the right call.

Took almost exactly a year, but I finally finished Digimon Story: Time Stranger. Aaaand apparently that was what I needed to start writing again? Wild. First review of anything in ages, on my own (shitty) site, hopefully a sign of things to come.

So. Digimon Story: Time Stranger came out a year ago today. In that time I've played it plenty, talked about it more than is probably healthy, and purchased copies for close to a dozen people. It was ...

Huh. All I'm saying is that hypothetically it would be pretty funny if the writing in the landmark thousandth issue of one of the biggest comic books out there had writing that perfectly matched the cadence of one of those shitty AI tiktok stories, right? #WednesdaySpoilers #ASM1000

I don't think anywhere I was writing for would have taken the pitch back when I did comics crit, if for no other reason than the fact that it probably wouldn't have played nice with advertisers, but for a while there I had really considered going in on why the first series didn't work..

When an erotic work is surface level horny, but utterly fails to elicit any emotion whatsoever, it's hard not to view the entire thing as a mistake.

Lex Cotta @lexcellence.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

The book was competently put together, don't get me wrong. There was potential, and I really wanted it to find it's footing, but when you looked at the sum of its parts, it was just utterly plastic. Not funny enough to be funny, not sexy enough to be sexy, and every attempt at poignancy fell flat

Lex Cotta @lexcellence.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

It wasn't just that it was blown out of the water by the webcomic scene at the time, though that was very much a given, it was also up against the last year or two of Sex Criminals, and... well, it certainly wasn't Sex Criminals.

Lex Cotta @lexcellence.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

y'know what was an absolutely godawful comic? Money Shot. It's genuinely kind of impressive impressive how a book that was all about sex managed to avoid any sense of eroticism.
