This is an extraordinary act of direct foreign interference by the US embassy in domestic Australian politics. The Australian government should publicly respond by rejecting efforts by the US embassy to dictate how Australia legislates for a digital duty of care.

This is a mind blowing public policy failure. This economic impact assessment found the cost of buffel grass’ spread is 60 times its benefits. Yet the NT Minister preempted his own report, locking in its planting and spread based on a minority cattle lobby recommendation. nt.gov.au/__data/asset...

This is important wherever you live given the scale and lack of rules for datacentres proposed in the NT. And that the NT is undermining efforts in other states to stop them using fossil fuels.

Not in the NT they don’t. Suncable is planning to clear 500km2 of native vegetation for a solar precinct to power data centres, and that’s just the start.

The amount of energy required by the hyperscale data centres is insane, the would require hundred if not thousands of square km of native vegetation cleared. There’s nothing ‘renewable’ about that.
