the last book i finished was The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Older. it’s a sapphic sci-fi murder mystery - aka everything i’ve ever wanted. i’m trying to be stingy with stars this year, but this one’s going to end up 5/5 for sure. ⭐️ #booksky

Ozymandias
Ozymandias

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
‘My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

I gave it 3.5 stars because while I liked it, I felt that Dex wasn’t very relatable. I guess I’m just not restless like they are, so it made reading their perspective a little frustrating at times. Even so, I did appreciate them.

The most impactful part for me was a discussion about meaning/purpose that happens toward the end. Mosscap’s perspective is exactly what I wanted/needed to hear.

A Psalm for the Wild-Built is a cozy sci-fi about a tea monk (Dex) and a robot (Mosscap) in a wonderful world that gives me hope for the future. #booksky

so far No Name in the Street is the kind of book where i want to highlight every page.

reuploading my january stats from @thestorygraph.com because i forgot to include my last book for the month. check it out! 📚✨💕
I read 7 books, 1968 pages, and my average rating was 4.33. Top rated books were The Hollow, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, and Cards on the Table. Average book length was 279 pages. Average time to finish was 6 days. The graph at the bottom is pages read by day, but honestly I haven’t even looked at it.I read 86% fiction, 14% nonfiction. 71% of books were <300 pages, 29% were 300-499. I read 57% print, 29% audio, and 14% digital. 5 books were crime/mystery/classics and 1 was essay/memoir. I don’t thin it included A Psalm for the Wild Built…

The reveal of the killer is very good, but I was misled by the hype. People say you absolutely cannot figure it out, so I suspected every background character. The killer is completely guessable. Even so, the reveal is powerful.
