My books have never been officially banned, but a woman did complain about my first book, Las Criaturas, to the mayor of our town when a bookseller was selling them at the farmers market because she said it looked "demonic." So that's fun. Support authors whose work is being challenged or banned!

I will probably always include pain and illness in my work, albeit in new and different ways, because that will most likely always be part of my lived reality. Pain is debilitating. It is recursive and limiting. But it does teach me things about relationality and care.

When readers and reviewers comment on how personal my work in Offerings to a Tumbled Temple or The Remedy is the Disease feel, it's because I wrote these two books while living through and navigating immense physical and psychic pain.
