Oh that’s marvellous. I hate awkward chit-chat about holidays, and telly programmes I don’t watch. In some ways, going to the dentist is better as you only have to talk about teeth; or your mouth is open and you can’t talk at all.

I’ve had a lovely final day at work, and received lots of amazing gifts from my colleagues: A hamper of art materials. A £200 voucher for a local art gallery. A voucher for afternoon tea for 2. A bouquet of flowers. £180 cash. A voodoo doll. 3 bottles of fizz. 3 bottles of gin.

Years ago, on my birthday, I was at Kings Cross waiting for the last train back to Newcastle. The Flying Scotsman pulled in after doing a rail tour, so me & Other Half went over to see it. He told the driver it was my birthday, and the driver invited us onto the footplate for a quick look 😀

And the cabin crew were repeatedly on the PA (at deafening volume) trying to tempt people to buy duty free perfume / cigarettes / spirits / make up etc. Noise-cancelling ear defenders next time I fly, I think.

The flight home was a horror. Kid sitting behind me was watching videos & playing shooting games at full volume on a tablet for the whole flight. His mother looked like she'd repeatedly kick the back of your seat (or your head) if you suggested he used headphones.
