The number of times I see people on various subreddits asking strangers to give them an endorsement for their decidedly not publishable work is immeasurable. So many folks just want to treat the ArXiv like a blog that gets indexed by Google Scholar.

Submitting to the journal that I got the waifu paper into has been a regular humiliation ritual because, with every submission, it has been bounced back by the editorial assistant for a requirement that did not exist for the previous submission.

Plus the passes don’t really give much of a bonus anymore. On the TIFF subreddit I saw people trying to share like a $1000 membership so they could get priority viewings during the festival. It feels way too big with too few supporting theatres.
