My enduring memory of 9/11 is not of the event itself - I was too young - but of the cultural aftermath I grew up in. Freedom Fries, bad Robert Pattinson movies, tacky American patriotism, airport security crackdowns. The attack was a tragedy, and yet it's been used to justify so much in its wake.
