@Apatapa Happy Kitteh Day!

Got toof fixed. They said that my filling completely unbonded, but I got to it before a cavity developed. Now I've just got numb-muzz.

@ret I'm getting a Mitsubishi Diamond Elite installer to do it. That way I get a full 12 year warranty. As far as the HOA, it's on the side of the house, behind the third garage door, so it's not easily or readily visible from the street. I'm going to get the PVC line cover painted to match the […]

To make it all a little more real, here’s the current HVAC setup with whole home generator. The Mitubishi mini split condenser is going on the wall.

A backyard with a brick wall, a fence, and a mini split air conditioning condenser unit on the ground with two AC units in the foreground and a Generac 24Kw whole home generator to the right. There are also boxes and other items on the grass.

The server room mini split is getting installed today. Bank account will be hurting, but electric bill should go down. Fun Fact: Air conditioning the room uses more power than all of the equipment...switches, firewall, server, storage, Tiggi.es Cluster, etc. combined. So this'll be a welcome […]

Pixel.Tiggi.es has been upgraded to 15.1 which just fixes some language regressions. I've got a few spots open on the instance if you're interested. Just remember that if you sign up, you need to DM me so I know to approve you. All of our media is hosted locally on enterprise PCIe 4 […]

@Apatapa I don't give the pattern a chance to take hold. There are enough folks in this world who value BurrTime that I don't need to waste it on folks who don't.

It may be harsh, but I stick to the belief that you never get a second time to make a first impression. If I'm friends with someone and they have to cancel a hang-out or dinner or whatever, that's fine and normal. If I'm meeting someone for the first time and they cancel an hour before we meet […]

PSA for Proxmox VE 9 folks on the 7.0 kernel, mostly the AMD crowd, get to 7.0.14-24. If you're on -20 or older you're missing KVM fixes, so this hits VMs, not LXC containers. On AMD hosts, a VM running its own nested VMs could reach into the host and see stale memory mappings from other VMs […]

pixel.tiggi.es is on Pixelfed 0.15.0. If you saw a blip or two this morning, that was me. This release dropped PHP 8.3, so Burrs had to move the box to PHP 8.4 before upgrading. Credit where it's due, @pixelfed: it was the first line of the release notes this time, so I knew before I broke […]

Thought it was funny that while I was watching a Hawaiian mini doc, the younger narrator pronounced King Kamehameha (kah-MAY-hah-MAY-hah) like the Dragonball move named after him (kame-hame-ha).

Electrical work is done for the new server room mini split...that should be installed on Monday. That should remove ~500w constantly running in the house and keep the server room UPS happier for a long time...and reduce the noise from that room pretty significantly.

[Death, Drugs mention, missing an old friend.] I found myself looking back at old pics I took, and came across one from a late 2008 trip I took with Arye aka "MicroLion", who I knew since he looked like the fetus on drums in Hanson. He was 25 back in this photo […] [Original post on tiggi.es]

@xoagray No one ever talks about the cost of financing. And that’s why financing is one of the biggest growing industries. And it’s virtually impossible to get ahead without going into some form of debt. So it’s not just the price of the car or the home. It’s the total cost of financing rolled […]

@xoagray @xoagray Well, even beyond that, folks will leave if you quote them the true cost after financing. Average sticker is about $52k, including trucks and SUVs. At a subprime rate over 72 months that's $1,055 a month and almost $76k total, $24k of it interest. People want to brag about the […]

@xoagray It’s a lot closer to 7% than that. This is why folks doing sales just base what you can buy on what you have been approved for vs what you’re comfortable paying monthly. For cars and for homes. It’s pretty disgusting. When I moved here in 2011, I bought at about 1/3 what I was […]

Looks like, even though our office in San Diego is closing, I'll be in OC for another really long weekend, and back in SD for 3 days for our "onsite" which will now occur at a hotel. I'll miss my long weekends there, but nothing like this ever lasts.

Gonna have fun setting this up today after work. With the weirdness going on with computers, and a favor, I was able to sell my M4 Max Mac Studio a month ago for less than it cost me to upgrade to an identically configured M5 Max.

One of my colleagues made the comment that he'd never been someplace as smokey as the lobby of Encore in Vegas when we were walking through it. He's in his early 30s. This reminded me of when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s, that there were smoking/nonsmoking sections that both smelled […]

The Mini split will be generator backed, since the entire house is, so if we did lose power, it would be set to kick back on as soon as power is received. I also had to do some research to make sure it would operate in cold weather; it's rated to 13F, but won't shutoff until -1F. Since […]

I've been running a Tripplite rack cooler in the home server room for a few years. While it keeps the room cool, it also doesn't manage humidity super well, and only has two modes - Fan, and compressor on. So it cycles quite a bit throughout the day, It also places quite a bit of load on the UPS […]

Hertz rental car company is hot garbage. Friday, I had a 10:30 pickup to rent a car for the day. My flight was (was…) set to board at 5:25. So I’d have several hours to kill. I didn’t get my car until 12:30. And this is after about 20 others with appointments came in and were declined cars […]
