Interesting. I wonder if it depends on your TV and TV settings. Shots being too dark is something that has bothered me in other shows, but I don’t remember feeling that way when watching Widow’s Bay. It is definitely frustrating when that happens!

Most people do not know the name of this bridge in the South Loop in Chicago. It's been around for 127 years and it was designated a Chicago landmark in 2007. It's called the St. Charles Air Line Bridge. Image at sunrise last Friday.

July 27, 1926: "Chicagoland" as a term for the Chicago metro area is coined in a headline that runs in the Chicago Tribune over the beginning of a series on the area's cultural treasures and tourist destinations. Publisher Robert McCormick will relentlessly plug the phrase for years.

Oh look, Chicago broke the air quality scale! I’m sure that this’ll be fine 🫠
Screenshot of weather app showing Chicago at 78 degrees with an air quality alert of 500 and a Chicago Tribune headline about air quality records being shattered By late afternoon, hazardous concentrations of PM2.5 in the North Shore suburbs reached an index above 900 on a scale that tops out at 500, according to AirNow, a website that combines data from county, state and federal air quality agencies nationwide. In Chicago, levels of PM2.5 jumped to 669 Thursday night.
Cook County's previous record for
PM2.5 was 223 on June 27, 2023, according to data from the EPA. Representatives from the EPA could not be reached to explain the health repercussions of numbers that exceed the scale.

As @geekyjules.julessherred.com noted, the "1st place" art by the "AI" there looks to have been heavily plagiarized from John Harris' cover art for my novel "The End of All Things," so ironically a real artist did the actual work and the "AI," absolutely unsurprisingly, crapped out a bad imitation.

Earlier this week, Intelligencer ran a piece called "ICE Won." We definitely don't agree with the title, but its gist—that the normalization of federal police violence is accelerating—is proving accurate. ICE arrests roughly doubled in Chicagoland in June over May. Some more thoughts on that:

Yes, the cameo was definitely fun! And there was still good acting. When they cut it down from a full season, I just think they should’ve pruned some of the storylines (dropped the Bentley plot to do more with the Jesus/second coming storyline, for example).

I finally watched the finale of Good Omens. Too bad it was a bit of a mess. I could see the glimmers of good ideas in there, but there was way too much plot for the runtime. Unfortunately, it looks like most of the humor and joy got cut when they had to condense everything.
