We just need to bring back preclearance. (Also RCV/Proportional Representation would be cool too)

Trump tomato tariffs could spell the end of free chips, salsa at restaurants - KERA
The 17% tariff on Mexican tomato imports, combined with bad weather in Florida and Mexico, has caused the price of salsa ingredients to spike in recent months.

Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending

Not for this administration. Congress could also very easily craft a statue that would back the court into a corner of either having an ever expanding court, or accepting mandatory senior status.

LemonOnAPear 🍋 🍐 @lemononapear.com · 02/10/2026
Senior status is also part of the office, congress also gets to define the office and its responsibilities. Who's to say they congress can't put a clock on to when senior status starts?

Cutting out red tape on clean energy projects makes them cheaper which makes them even more cost competitive/faster than fossil fuel projects. Solar and wind are already significantly cheaper and faster to deploy than gas.

the permitting reform deal is extremely good and Dems should support it because 1. It will lower carbon emissions 2. It will not help Trump politically, and most of the benefits won’t be felt until 2029 3. we won’t get a better deal while Trump is President 4. We can always improve it in 2029

Don't forget batteries! I think the only viable path to cost efficient nuclear is if we decide to build 50 large nuclear plants over the next 20 years like France did in the 70s. You need a consistent pipeline of projects so you can build and maintain the expertise. SMRs just don't make sense.

I think you can get a lot of benefits from amalgamating school districts instead. Don't let the burbs (or even random rich parts of a city) have their own isolated school system.

Using state funds to replace the revue lost from toll roads for road maintenance instead of transit expansion is bad, but IDK if much of that money would be going to transit anyway.
000
LemonOnAPear 🍋 🍐 @lemononapear.com · 20/09/2026
I do think we have some of the wrong roads tolled, the inner highway loops were congestion is the worst and infrastructure the most expensive should be tolls. But the roads just service sprawling suburban communities are also probably fine.

And here's the one from the GOP texasgop.org/wp-content/u...
56. Toll Roads: We call on the Texas Legislature to abolish existing toll roads and to prohibit future
construction, returning responsibility for road construction and maintenance to the appropriate
jurisdiction. We also urge the Texas Legislature to end toll billing abuses and pass a uniform toll
collection and billing procedure that prohibits excessive fines and fees, requires transparent and
accurate billing, and removes the criminal penalties for a person with unpaid tolls.
57. High-Speed Rail: Taxpayer money shall not fund or subsidize high-speed rail, nor shall eminent
domain be used in the construction of high-speed rail.

Here's the one from the Dems 5aa41392-2958-4609-a10f-4bbd79e2f348.filesusr.com/ugd/061e99_1...
● Prevent infrastructure built with public funds from being owned by private entities;
● Prohibit the conversion of public highways, freeways, or roads into a toll road, and
plan to convert all existing toll road infrastructure built on public roads to free and
non-tolled use;
● Require TxDOT to include “induced demand” concepts in their planning;
● Encourage alternatives to freeway expansion, and discourage construction or
expansion through historically divided and redlined neighborhoods and
neighborhoods of color; &
● Encourage multi-modal transit and increase walkability by investing in accessibility to,
and infrastructure for, alternative modes of transportation.
