(On which note, thanks to @cooraysmith.bsky.social for patiently letting me rant about that on the way back to the tube...)

Agatha Christie Limited really need to get a fucking grip on their output and return to this level of quality rather than the terrible Tommy and Tuppence style shite they seem determined to make to cash in on the name.

It's testament to how damn good these productions are that I was sat in my seat for three hours (including Q&A) and not once did I fidget or think of popping back to the bar for another drink.

Had a lovely afternoon yesterday at Riverside Studios watching "The Mirror Crack'd From Side to Side" on the big screen, with a great Q&A led by @markaldridge.info (and it was lovely of Joan Hickson's granddaughter to provide charming insight into her "Ga" and bring some amazing photos with her).
Movie style poster on the screen for "The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side" by Lee Binding.Couple of photos provided by Joan Hickson's Granddaughter. Including an adorable one of Joan doing a comedy shrug to camera while on set.

I once shared a house with a guy who didn't see the point of separating knives, forks and spoons in the cutlery drawer and just threw them in randomly. I often fantasised about murdering him.

Good morning. As a (comparatively) successful author I feel it’s time to branch out in my career. As a result, I’m excited to be stepping into the world of professional football. Since I’m physically incapable of playing football at a professional level I will be hiring what I call a “ghostballer”

Oh yes, wonderfully frothy. Hollow Man prose less delightful, but at least readable!

Just read this based on your recommendation. It’s very Wodehouse in feel (lovely), with a clever plot. Not sure it entirely gels, but it was enough to make me seek out The Hollow Man.

Just finished "Marple: An Expert in Wickedness" by @markaldridge.info . Great stuff as ever and fascinating to see the views Christie and her estate have of the quality of the early adaptations - especially in the light of some more recent ones which are easily (at least) equal offenders.

Problem is it's completely ignoring the fact that you're still leaving the toxic wasteland in place and that fences are reasonably easy to get past if you have enough intent. It’s “being seen to do something” even if “something” is basically meaningless if you’re only tinkering around the edges.

Sadly this whole social media ban by @labouruk.bsky.social is just the “Beckton Ski Slopes” of the internet. There they decided it was probably a bad idea for a toxic wasteland to be a playground, especially for kids, so put a big fence round it saying “don’t come in here”.

The death of the comedy giant Rob Grant earlier this year, reminded me of one of my earliest ever published works, a review of Red Dwarf VIII in TV Zone way back in 1999. I like the slug line. Less keen on the inventive. I'd be gentler now. (Though it is still a terrible series.)

Really hoping @labouruk.bsky.social don't end up rallying behind Streeting. The man always comes across as "career politician". And he's even more uncanny valley than Starmer. Definitely not the one to win people over.

Usually a bump in the studio floor is enough to give the poor darlings pause for thought, but you don't have to point it out, Doc. But the really sad thing (and why I never got so excited by the news of the returned episodes anyway) is we're still over 50% of the story missing.

Well, we now have 45% more of Hartnell's Doctor Who as a simpleton on laughing gay acting which I could well have done without, frankly. It's so odd. And the fluffed line in episode three "the Daleks will stop at anything!" is jaw-droppingly bad enough to have warranted a retake. I mean...

Ah, once again the Guardian's sniffiest reviewer doesn't like something I quite enjoyed, for all its faults. She and some of their theatre critics should be studied to find out who hurt them as children. (Their movie reviews, oddly, I find strangely spot on.)

Definitely haven't spent two hours of my day putting together a soundtrack album for the TV series Mongrels. Because that would be insanity. (And it definitely doesn't have two bonus tracks.)

There is something odd about the British psyche that celebrates things in our history that weren't all that. See also Victorian England and the two world wars. And you seem to celebrate them even more if you weren't actually there.
