Full post has the concrete examples behind each of these - how we chunked a 409KB API reference, what the eval rubric looks like, the Vercel log drain pipeline for measurement. What I actually did, not what I think you should do. hookdeck.com/blog/developer-platform-agent-ready
Diagram showing five layers of an agent-ready developer platform: Information (llms.txt, markdown doc routes, OpenAPI spec, SDKs), Guidance (docs, agent skills, prompts), Action (API, SDKs, CLI, MCP server), Verification (structural validation, drift detection, agent scenario testing), and Measurement (server-side analytics, User-Agent classification, navigation tracking).

6/ Measurement: server-side analytics, not client-side JS. Agents don't run JavaScript. Mapping agent sessions back to a specific user? Still unsolved.

Phil Leggetter @leggetter.co.uk · 05/05/2026
5/ Verification - the one most teams skip. Validate code examples in CI, detect drift between docs and skills, run agent evals against a rubric. Test the degraded paths - what happens when the agent doesn't have your skill installed.

Phil Leggetter @leggetter.co.uk · 05/05/2026
4/ Action: APIs, SDKs, CLI, MCP. Scope each deliberately. CLIs handle configuration, setup, and testing. MCP fills a different role - for us, that's investigation.

Phil Leggetter @leggetter.co.uk · 05/05/2026
3/ Guidance: skills, how-to docs, prompts. Tell agents what to do, not just what's possible. Same idea as Diátaxis for human docs - reference vs how-to - just in different formats.
100
Phil Leggetter @leggetter.co.uk · 05/05/2026
2/ Information: publish llms.txt, serve docs as markdown, expose your OpenAPI spec. Add buttons so developers can push content straight into an agent's context.

Phil Leggetter @leggetter.co.uk · 05/05/2026
1/ Progressive disclosure: don't dump everything into context. Our API reference is 409KB - agents shouldn't be swallowing that in one go. Index first, detail on demand. This cuts across everything below.

Anyone with llms.txt/.md/agent-facing docs knows that client-side tracking doesn’t work (no browser, no JS). Here's what does: Vercel log drains → Hookdeck → PostHog. Who’s reading what, entry/exit paths. Step-by-step setup guide: hookdeck.com/webhooks/pla...

The Deck product is very new to me. Feels more like a solution for a product manager, instructing a team to build various features - or trying to build the same feature in different ways - simultaneously. I think it's worth giving it a try.

What other changes are you making to your docs to make them more accessible to LLMs and developers targeting their use?

Should we have a dedicated llms.txt under /docs? Our OpenAPI spec is pretty big, so should we create dedicated .md versions for each endpoint? Or do you think we should focus on improving the related product docs with more examples?

Phil Leggetter @leggetter.co.uk · 11/08/2025
1. Copy for LLM: copies a markdown version of the current doc to the clipboard 2. View as Markdown: view any docs page as markdown with a ".md" extension 3. llms.txt at the root of the website: Covers docs and other content that sits outside of docs
