It’s clearly not for me (old, a longstanding Wizard of Oz fan of books and film, allergic to musical theatre to a degree), but even so, I couldn’t stop cringing.

I hadn’t enjoyed the novel (way back when), yet because it felt like a cultural void, I dipped my toes into Wicked last night. Didn’t last long, and you’ll now find me Ranulph Fiennes-ing them with a fretsaw.

My publishers have sent me some graphics for Wayfarers and they’ve basically said, if I’m reading this right, that if I don’t share them on social media they’ll send the boys round. Modern publishing is brutal.

Have had that horrible experience of being asked to change the briefest paragraph in one of my books so a particular foreign publisher could avoid arrest in that country’s massive LGBTQ+ crackdown. I had to decline and therefore not be published - you don’t negotiate with tyrants - but what a world.

Random long shot but: anyone know anyone who needs a good part-time worker in Edinburgh? My 18yo just started uni there except there's a 5 week teaching strike, and he's bored and lonely as his accommodation is miles away and really anti social. He wants a job.
