Researchers unveil new haptic patch that conveys complexity of touch in VR. The thin, flexible device could also help the visually impaired 'feel' their surroundings. A thread 1/10 #virtualreality #vr #vision #disability #research #haptics #sensors #wearabletechnology
The new device pictured comprises a hexagonal array of 19 small magnetic actuators encapsulated within a thin, flexible silicone-mesh material. Each actuator can deliver different sensations, including pressure, vibration and twisting. Using Bluetooth technology in a smartphone, the device receives data about a person's surroundings for translation into tactile feedback - substituting one sensation (like vision) for another (touch).

Every day is a Dopamine and Serotonin day. The only question is, how much of each! Studies in mice might seem of limited relevance to humans. But perhaps we have more in common than we care to admit?

2/5 Mixed Reality (MR) technologies, where users see a seamless blend of real-world and virtual content via a head mounted display or headset, have the potential to enhance educational experiences across a wide range of disciplines, including music education.

The setup requires an HMD, a digital piano, and a cable to connect the HMD to the piano. (B) Within the Hand Coach component, users practice using the hand menu, triggered when the left-hand palm faces upward. This menu facilitates quick settings adjustments and enables teleportation throughout the virtual space. (C) To calibrate the virtual piano to the physical piano first the lowest and then the highest key of the physical piano need to be pressed. (D) The position of the virtual piano can be fine-tuned using the adjustment buttons
