FYI I quoted this in my book proposal today

Today is my deadline for finishing THEEEEE draft of my book proposal, and guys I have to be honest, I feel like a mad woman. Unkempt, under socialized, living in squalor, possibly delusional Please send your favorite form of encouragement. I shall look at them later. Once more unto the breach &tc.

I think mine is an older version of this, maybe www.roomandboard.com/catalog/livi...

The one I have has a whole trundle in the bottom so it can transform into a queen bed. It's definitely not low, I don't like low furniture (beds or sofas). Lemme look

Then I thought, wait what if the Aztecs came back and were like, "Actual blood sacrifices? Really? No you idiots, those were MEMES"

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 30/09/2026

darth the other day I was like, what if in 1000 years all that's left from today are a few memes, the video of the "I'm not a cat" lawyer, and a mug that says "WHITE MEN'S TEARS" do you think they'll be like, "perhaps this was a ceremonial chalice?"

Pillows: I don't have off-gassing issues with most of them for whatever reason but what have you tried/are you looking for because I have tried many (and I have connective tissue problems I have opinions) Mattress: You gotta lie on them first tbh, that's what I did with the one I have now

Couch: Room & Board - I'm sitting on my Room & Board couch I bought in 2019 that has been moved to three apartments, partially dismantled each time, and it looks so good that when I moved it into this third apartment, one of the guys doing repair work thought it was brand new. Cost a lot, WORTH IT

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 29/09/2026

Yeah I'm just continuing to extol the virtues of these. Like they thought of everything!

110

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 29/09/2026

These even come with tiny little soft feet you can stick on the bottom so they don't scratch! And the way they soak up water is genuinely cool to me. Diatomaceous earth, who knew!

120

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 29/09/2026

It's diatomaceous earth! Now I want Lumpy coasters! Why do I never think of the good ideas

I wish I could frame this and put it on my desk to cheer me as I write

These will never make you install an update immediately upon purchasing them

Please give these to her as a gift and report back

Yes, I know Amazon is trash. I'm sorry, but some days I need to pick my battles, and the day I bought these, my battle was with sweaty glasses. No, I do not use affiliate links. Have a nice rest of your day.

1110

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 29/09/2026

Anyway, if you too are plagued by condensation and yearn for a coaster that will not somehow betray you, may I suggest these? Wish I could vouch for the non-blob shaped ones but unfortunately I bought them before realizing round was an option and have not used the round ones a.co/d/09js4A3g

God, this is what I've been reduced to. Everything is so garbage and I'm so used to paying more money for shittier experiences that I'm a woman transformed simply because a small puddle of water disappeared into a coaster rather than splashing onto the table, or the coaster sticking to the glass

4261

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 29/09/2026

My expectations for modern life are now so low that I am thrilled - absolutely THRILLED - about the incredible absorption powers of my new coasters. They work! They do exactly what they claim to do! It's like magic, both the absorbing and the fact that I paid money for them and do not regret it!

Maybe my favorite thing is knowing there’s going to be a part TWO (especially as I missed the viewing for this one). What a woman

020

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 29/09/2026

Do it!! This is your inspiration. There's almost certainly a mom where you are trying to help her baby this way

000

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 29/09/2026

This *is* also partly because UX researchers were and are ignored at every turn when they say "people don't want this," then most of those people were laid off, and now everyone is scared to lose their jobs because they know they'll never get another so they go along to get along.

This post also has info. New Yorkers know how to SHOW UP and take care of each other, so I know we can help. Donate this week, next, whenever, as there is a shortage. Again, direct donations at the center to Stella Stuther and provide her birthday (DM me for it) www.reddit.com/r/AskNYC/s/9...

Lumpy also loves to lie on the floor or next to me. Never on a lap. And I've had him since he was 5 months. Is both smart and not smart enough to catch things. In general, a perfect guy

Lumpy was looking an awful lot like Regency dandy Beau Brummell today. Curious what @dieworkwear.bsky.social would think of his cravat and general style

A large beautiful fluffy gray and white cat with green eyes. His floofy chest ruff is parted down the middle and looks like a Regency gentleman’s cravat, or maybe glorious Victorian facial hair

An illustration of famous Regency gent and OG menswear influencer Beau Brummell, also wearing a cravat

Ulysses. I don't like Scrivener. But this is less a software thing and more a brain thing I think.

010

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 21/09/2026

I have lots of "notes for later" things but my problems are that: 1. I am chronically disorganized and allergic to spreadsheets and 2. Sometimes I'll think of like five things at once and it's a sort of paralysis of like "oh no which one to write now and where do I put the others"

120

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 21/09/2026

that's how my brain feels and I had to stop doing post it notes because they get stuck everywhere and I lose them

020

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 21/09/2026

Whoaaaaa this is blowing my mind, not least that you referred to drafts as builds. How does one go about even doing this? That's an even more embarrassing question, as I did work on product teams for a long time

Leah Reich @leahreich.com · 21/09/2026

What you probably don't do is stop writing mid-paragraph and fire up Bluesky to ask

Hello long-form nonfiction writers, esp book authors, I have maybe a dumb question: How do you keep track of all the different threads that need to connect? Like staying focused in one section and not heading off on a tangent but remembering those threads up later and weaving them in?
