Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

Watching this season of Hard Knocks, and it's kind of fascinating seeing behind the scenes. I've never thought much about how hard it can be to keep people from going all out all the time. You want to be at the peak of your abilities, but you can't always give that much against your teammates.

This was a nurse, not a doctor, but when I was pre-op for my tubal ligation (tube tying), but she asked how many kids I had and then informed me I *needed* to have more. 13 years later, I'm still flabbergasted at the audacity to dictate my reproductive choices and the sheer stupidity of her timing.

I'm going to be honest, I did not realize we literally dry raisins out in the fields like this any longer. I think I had assumed we industrialized the process somewhere along the way and brought it indoors. I'm pleased we haven't and think the workers should be paid appropriately.

I have been blessed with a host of shiny riches lately from @peculiarityshop.bsky.social and finally have some pictures. The stones in sterling are all aurora opals, aka my new obsession. The elephants are nifty screwbacks to accommodate the fact that my ears are sensitive as heck.

A local restaurant serves this amazing hot honey feta dip. I wanted some tonight but didn't want to pay restaurant prices, so I thought I'd make my own. I did it, and it tastes pretty dang good, but also I forgot to get pita at the store, so now I have nothing to scoop with!

Resealable container of pale creamy feta cheese dip topped with crushed pistachios and drizzled hot honey, set on a granite countertop.

8 Oz block of feta, 3/4 cup of plain Greek yogurt, zest of a lemon, hot honey and olive oil for making it, crushed pistachios.

Toss the feta, yogurt, and lemon zest in the food processor with blades and start processing. You can drizzle in olive oil and honey to smooth it all out (and add some pistachios if you want them chopped up finely). Then pour it onto a serving plate, make a well, fill it with honey, and top it with crushed pistachios. Or dump it all into a container like I did if you aren't going to eat it right away. Scoop it with slices of flatbread/pita.

I made it out for a walk/run (I hate running; I'm still trying to get into better shape despite that) before 9am, and it was already so gross out when not in the shade. Apparently we have hit that time of year when the only time it's comfortable to exercise outdoors is before 7am and after 9pm.
