it's always strange to me when people point out that anubis can be bypassed. the point is that it still significantly reduces scraper traffic when deployed. just because you think it's ineffective doesn't change the fact that it demonstrably works

if you repeatedly choose not to use alt text for your media, you're making the web a less accessible space. and if you're trans like me, you should understand better than most people why inclusion matters and why you shouldn't be contributing to the exclusion of blind and low-vision people

one of the worst things microblogging has done is making dogpiling into a sport for some people. it feels like people forget that the people they're talking about and replying to are real humans with real emotions and not just another one of your shitty fucking ai agents reposting lolicon content

i saw the among us tv series last night and it was honestly really good. it's got a total runtime of about an hour and a half and it's definitely worth the time. it's one of those things you don't expect to be good until you watch it and realize it's peak

noticing the target audience for your mom's products is an unfortunate halmark of womanhood. "for dull skin!" "for wrinkles" you see directly her fears, her insecurities. you wish you could shake her and tell her how beautiful she is, but it wouldnt stick. the need for youth and beauty is pervasive.

it's just so wild to me when people have the opportunity to learn something new and reject it on principle. like, there is so much stuff out there in the world that you could be learning about and yet you refuse to engage with any of it. fundamentally incurious

Getting together a PicoIDE demo setup for VCF Midwest and for fun I think I'll use my SGI Visual Workstation 320. Quake, Quake II, and Half-Life run great! Anyone know any other fun OpenGL games from the late 90s? The SGI graphics on this machine can't do Direct3D, which is a fun limitation.
A swoopy large tower case with the side open and its guts spilling out - ribbon cables and both a PicoIDE and a BlueSCSI connected to it. The beginning of Half-Life 1 is on the screen.

GTA 6 feels less like a game and more some kind of totem for a certain kind of dying gamer identity, that cannot economically or culturally sustain itself anymore. it represents a million different things and seemingly the least important of them is that it is an open world mission based video game

the more I age, the more I detest software at a visceral, personal level. Every pointless deprecation, bullshit API change, vibe-coded regression, violation of semver, godawful UI change in tooling I use, etc. that I have to put up with is time not spent enjoying my brief time on Earth

when an autistic girl tells you that your joke about autism is making her uncomfortable, the correct reaction is to stop doing that and choose literally anything else to spend your time doing

turns out that taking a framework mostly used for large datasets and queries, shoving it into a fundamentally differently-shaped serialization format, and then using it for social networking doesn't work very well

for anyone using the hetzner server console to debug stuff, the keycodes seem to get mixed up when pasting. i spent half an hour debugging why i couldn't ssh into a server and it turned out that the dashes in the fingerprint got turned into equals signs

i personally think a programming language doesn't need to be able to run complex logic to be one, but it's really difficult to convince people of that so it's just easier to make it run x86 assembly instead

the Konami Python 2 will always be the peak of mid-2000s arcadejank to me imagine being an arcade tech back then, and you finally receive the kit to upgrade your cab from DDR SuperNOVA to SuperNOVA 2, so you open the case to get at the disc drive, and you're met face-to-face with this:
a picture of a Konami Python 2, which is composed of a literal, entire, retail PlayStation 2 console, case and all - exactly the same unit as you'd buy at a store. the PS2 is surrounded by some custom boards, and framed inside a metal box (meant to go inside an arcade cabinet). it looks ridiculously funny.
