Long Beach Latino Democratic Club Official Statement on Allegations Against Cesar Chavez.
A graphic that reads: "The Long Beach Latino Democratic Club is appalled by the disturbing allegations against the late Cesar Chavez. These allegations, which were formally reported in the New York Times Wednesday morning, must be taken seriously.

We strongly and unequivocally condemn Chavez's alleged actions. No one, nor their legacy, is above accountability. We reckon with harm from decades ago with consequences stretching through lifetimes."A graphic that reads: "These allegations are painful in many ways. So few of our leaders are recognized and uplifted. Powerful, living and widely known abusers are not being held accountable. We are inundated with evidence of the historic and continued exploitation of women and girls.

We express our deepest appreciation for Dolores Huerta and the women who have come forward with their experiences as survivors of abuse, as well as for their leadership and contributions to the farm worker movement and beyond."A graphic that reads: "The farm worker movement changed the course of history and was carried by the people who believed in its demands for justice. We recognize and honor this pivotal work, which cannot be diminished.

The movement for workers' and civil rights is bigger than any one person. We will continue our efforts to advance those causes, while also standing with survivors of abuse and advocating for the repair of the harms caused by those held up as leaders in our society."

During these 27 years, Alta California was shaped by Mexican law, culture and land stewardship. Though the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo marked the end of Mexican sovereignty in California, the legacy of this period remains deeply woven into the cultural and historic fabric of our communities."A graphic that reads: "Did you know? The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was negotiated in direct defiance to President James K. Polk, who was furious that - even after capturing Mexico City and forcing General Santa Anna from power - Mexico refused to sign the treaty. Diplomat Nicholas Trist defied Polk's command to extract even more territory from the Mexican Government, delivering the originally negotiated treaty."A graphic that reads: "178 years later, half of all children in California belong to a Latina mother. 178 years later, Latinos make up nearly 44% of Long Beach residents. Our statement on the recent US military action in Venezuela. #LongBeachCA #Democrats #DemocraticParty #SouthernCalifornia #SoCal #venezuela
Long Beach Latino Democratic Club Official Statement

The Long Beach Latino Democratic Club strongly condemns the bombings in Caracas and the arrest and indictment of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cillia Flores de Maduro, by the United States Military. Conducted without notification or approval from Congress, these actions violate the U.S. Constitution, breach international law undermine national sovereignty, and erode the democratic principles our nation is obligated to uphold. There are legitimate, diplomatic, humanitarian and multilateral avenues to support democratic transition; this reckless intervention is not one of them. For more than 70 years, US military actions in Latin America have failed to produce freer societies or improved living conditions, instead fueling dictatorships, repression and loss of life. While Maduro was a tyrant, the absence of any plan beyond his extraction risks prolonged instability, internal conflict, and deep harm to U.S. credibility. The Trump Administration has escalated armed aggression against Venezuela for weeks under the guise of combating drug trafficking, continuing attacks even after civilian casualties were confirmed, culminating in this past Saturday's unilateral takeover.

We stand in solidarity with the nations across the Global South - including Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Honduras and South Africa - that reaffirm sovereignty, peaceful dialogue, and non-intervention. Their stance reflects a global consensus that no country, and no president, is above the law.The Long Beach Latino Democratic Club remains committed to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law at home and abroad.

We reject any action the prioritizes political agendas over international norms or the safety and self-determination of the Venezuelan people.
