“Now there’s one thing I just can’t get my head around.” “I never said nothin’ about a school.” “Where might you’ve gotten the idea about a school?”

My last noted comparison would be to something like GY!BE, except taking half the time to get to the same emotional payout and with no need to staple its songs to any dated political periods, which I am ALL FOR.

Rise to Ashes is a stadium chant comparable to the likes of Kernkraft 400, Now Future and Sweet Inertia trails its vocals into a nexus slurry, and the defeating All Things Burn asks you to hold those fonder moments closer. It’s an adventure worthy of the mainstream.

I’ve known the Two Fingers brand for much longer, music which has far more explicit requests to interact with it because you could simply rap over those beats. This side of Amon gets somehow even more imagination out of the fueling of rave.

The central connection of the fleeting strings and breakdowns waiting like hunting cats makes each track feel like there’s a path you’ve walked down to make it here, like I’m being rewarded for my knowledge beforehand with how well done these beats are, how inviting the atmosphere.

Amon Tobin - How do you Live (🐴) (Not tracking score anymore) The full life cycle of discovery of a new passion, ecstasy it brings, estrangement through the time spent, and its disappearance forever. This album feels like I’ve just been thrown into the debauchery younger me missed, and was punished

There's a lot of people that want to be put into emotion by music, myself included. Platinum Scatter is putting me into something in line with emotion and asking me to move in one way or another along the gradient, like a face scrub from my heart. Hard to believe without hearing it yourself.

Lazorinc @lazorinc.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
Platinum Scatter earns its overconfidence, its allowance to not have its individual tracks quickly twist and turn past the opening pitch, and yet I still understand that there's somehow more potential in the atomic bond. That connection is almost unique to this album compared to CV's early breakbeat

Songs like 'Platinum Scatter', 'Deep Mind', and 'Transscript' have beat patterns that throw you to floor in the first minute, and by the end of the track you are prostrate, both accepting and confused by how you ended up in that position. I don't understand how the drums make sense, but I will.

Current Value - Platinum Scatter (8/10) Current Value is an artist that is impossible to understand on a first impression, and yet here I am attempting to do so. The first listen of a track from him is an unsyncopated jostling, the second is a rewiring, the third is an infection.

In this sense, the edge that drew me to a lot of his music is almost lost on the more rigid latin hiphop pieces in spite of their intensity to the point that it dips in the middle when you're in the break between Tranqui and Duro, but I still can't help but love the care for the world he's learned.

You get this more in the music videos, but getting away from North America with his funding from being an electronic muse visibly changed the maturity of his production, easily discernable from Recess experimentation as more of an embrace than a revolt that dubstep was previously.

In Skrillex's usual lack of compromise, a majority of SOMA is bleeding edge funk and an escape from the sound that he pulled from the vault in Andy Warhol. We still get the title track and 'Anybody' to satisfy someone looking for a festival piece to recognize, but he keeps focus on his experience.

Lazorinc @lazorinc.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
Skrillex - SOMA (7/10) As one of those artists constantly looking to reinvent himself, with his domain of music following suit, enough exposure to latin america has consumed the expected experimental portion of Sonny's latest album. If he's asked us to do anything, it's to appreciate what he sees.

my advice to any aspiring villains or mad scientists etc, just double check that your plan actually did work before the maniacal laughter. its just as distracting as monologuing but you look even dumber if youre howling your ass off while your shit falls apart behind you

Bensley - SUPRALIMINAL (5/10) Random sampling led me to believe this would be constantly hitting the quality of 1-800-BEN-SLEY and burning_memories but truthfully it falls into trappings that popular edm have seared onto uptempo and drumstep that makes it just fine.

Only when the tearout slides into view or when peggy says “I’m racist” do you even get so much as reminded about the prickly demeanor that’s meant to come with an album meant to be as narcissistic and colorful as this.

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP (5/10) Having your project called “Experimental” and then having almost entirely a singular flow is diabolical. Much of the instrumental has already been done way better in EDM, much of the lyricism lies in the same drill ideals of girls and money we’ve seen for years.

It’s difficult to approach what happens in Virgins without simply sitting amazed at its choices in completing the full range allowed in a wave of sound, I can’t recall any moment that doesn’t maximize the pad and the jostle as if your surroundings are a result of the sound, and not vice versa.

Tim Hecker - Virgins (9/10) Overwhelming and phantasmal decoupling of timbre from its instrument hosts, shards of structures previously shaped like harpsichords, superposition between rhythm and its opposite. It’s enough to make a scholar of music out of anyone.

Martyn - Music for Existing (7/10) A necessary amount of pro-humanity in a pleasant blend of jazz and dub, two creative and indistinguishably soulful genres. I admittedly love the message more than I love the music, but it’s clear that it was made for the wonder of making at its core.

BerwynGesaffNeighbors also made me mald when the entire two minutes builds into the craziest high only to then transition into nothing. No other cut gets that bad, but that idea of getting the demos out of the door is hard when every other song is designed to wash away the world.

Fred Again.. - USB (7/10) Fuck I really wanted to like this so much more but it is paced like a rumble strip. Outside of the run from leavemealone to Jungle, it borders on smash cuts for deep house and shallow house that feel like fantastic evolutionary singles that just wanted to be singles.

Fearful & MTWN - Exordium (8/10) A good venture of dark ambient that knows when to get louder. It's a genre I associate with PS1 era escapes from warehouses, and it keeps enough funk together for me to relish in that again. Incredible inspiration for anyone looking to build something like that.

It's mildly insane to describe a dubstep-adjacent with horror terminology and it not be tearout slop, but Subsistence serves on every front, even as far as getting funky and choppy on AUTOSARCOPHAGY and GUTTERED. Definitely enough to recommend outside of the bass music cult.

Lazorinc @lazorinc.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
Digitist - Subsistence (8/10) Gnashing nightmare engine that effortlessly makes you forget how digitized everything around you is. Every synth sounds like it's being dragged across bone, and every bass rumbles through the sewer as something huge stomps closer and closer towards you.

Lazorinc @lazorinc.bsky.social · 14/05/2026
Nitepunk - Human (8/10) As sassy and cocky of an interpretation of trap as The Prodigy was for the conclusion of acoustic rock. It works perfectly well as a catalyst for a sound I believe is going to absorb the rest of this decade, complete with some more forgettable sacrificial pieces in between.

Lazorinc @lazorinc.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
Current Value - The All Attracting (7/10) Fascinated more than enjoyed, but Current Value’s approach to the measure of production quality leading to non-sequiter flows and drums hitting turbulence. The settling from surprise to submission is easily the best part of catching a Current Value earworm.

Calvin and Hobbes record meme.

DAD: Posting a record meme? I'll show you something boring.

DAD: Any two elements of a set can be used to divide that set into two subsets based on their similarity to each element. So the two-type meme can be done for literally anything. Some things are more like the first thing. Some are more like the second.

CALVIN: Yeah...

DAD: Two points make a line and you can divide an n-dimensional space (n>1) using that line. That's it. There's nothing fundamental to any of the categories.

(Calvin and Hobbes are sleeping peacefully in the last panel.)

Burr Oak - Dark Age (6/10) Somehow envisioning d&b that’s meant to capture feudalist times never puts visions of theremins or strings, all it needs is the right amount of grit and disparity. Dark Age does that just fine, and could also do way better than just fine, but sounds just fine.
