Amon Tobin - How do you Live (🐴) (Not tracking score anymore) The full life cycle of discovery of a new passion, ecstasy it brings, estrangement through the time spent, and its disappearance forever. This album feels like I’ve just been thrown into the debauchery younger me missed, and was punished

Current Value - Platinum Scatter (8/10) Current Value is an artist that is impossible to understand on a first impression, and yet here I am attempting to do so. The first listen of a track from him is an unsyncopated jostling, the second is a rewiring, the third is an infection.

Skrillex - SOMA (7/10) As one of those artists constantly looking to reinvent himself, with his domain of music following suit, enough exposure to latin america has consumed the expected experimental portion of Sonny's latest album. If he's asked us to do anything, it's to appreciate what he sees.

Bensley - SUPRALIMINAL (5/10) Random sampling led me to believe this would be constantly hitting the quality of 1-800-BEN-SLEY and burning_memories but truthfully it falls into trappings that popular edm have seared onto uptempo and drumstep that makes it just fine.

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP (5/10) Having your project called “Experimental” and then having almost entirely a singular flow is diabolical. Much of the instrumental has already been done way better in EDM, much of the lyricism lies in the same drill ideals of girls and money we’ve seen for years.

Tim Hecker - Virgins (9/10) Overwhelming and phantasmal decoupling of timbre from its instrument hosts, shards of structures previously shaped like harpsichords, superposition between rhythm and its opposite. It’s enough to make a scholar of music out of anyone.

Martyn - Music for Existing (7/10) A necessary amount of pro-humanity in a pleasant blend of jazz and dub, two creative and indistinguishably soulful genres. I admittedly love the message more than I love the music, but it’s clear that it was made for the wonder of making at its core.

Fred Again.. - USB (7/10) Fuck I really wanted to like this so much more but it is paced like a rumble strip. Outside of the run from leavemealone to Jungle, it borders on smash cuts for deep house and shallow house that feel like fantastic evolutionary singles that just wanted to be singles.

Fearful & MTWN - Exordium (8/10) A good venture of dark ambient that knows when to get louder. It's a genre I associate with PS1 era escapes from warehouses, and it keeps enough funk together for me to relish in that again. Incredible inspiration for anyone looking to build something like that.

Digitist - Subsistence (8/10) Gnashing nightmare engine that effortlessly makes you forget how digitized everything around you is. Every synth sounds like it's being dragged across bone, and every bass rumbles through the sewer as something huge stomps closer and closer towards you.

Nitepunk - Human (8/10) As sassy and cocky of an interpretation of trap as The Prodigy was for the conclusion of acoustic rock. It works perfectly well as a catalyst for a sound I believe is going to absorb the rest of this decade, complete with some more forgettable sacrificial pieces in between.

Current Value - The All Attracting (7/10) Fascinated more than enjoyed, but Current Value’s approach to the measure of production quality leading to non-sequiter flows and drums hitting turbulence. The settling from surprise to submission is easily the best part of catching a Current Value earworm.

Burr Oak - Dark Age (6/10) Somehow envisioning d&b that’s meant to capture feudalist times never puts visions of theremins or strings, all it needs is the right amount of grit and disparity. Dark Age does that just fine, and could also do way better than just fine, but sounds just fine.

Oneohtrix Point Never - Returnal (4/10) I’ve given this directionless visionless cluster of tacks too much attention, setting up Nil Admirari and then doing nothing with it, yet again ripping the Zones without People synths to flutter around. Nothing but occasional nice vibrations, the minimum.

Burial - Untrue (7/10) The most overrated album I have interacted with, and that doesn't detract from how good it really is. The falling shell casings in the haze, the vocals assembled like a brick wall, the monotony that lets your shoulders fall. But it's really not THAT good.

Thundercat - Distracted (8/10) Ending a jazz album on "Maybe I should start an OnlyFans and show some feet" is exactly hot to present the chaos that sits under the surface of the chill. Half of these are fun, half of these are sexual fuck, the wide net is successfully capturing a lot.

Phantogram - Voices (7/10) Competing with Röyksopp at its most impressive moments, and upper bound radio music at worst. The struggle and release and resign of its message gives me enough to know there’s a beating heart.

Mesh - The Truth Doesn’t Matter (6/10) Incredibly confident in its lyrics with how little they change. When it works like in Exile, it feels great. When they don’t like I Lost a Friend Today, it’s Kitsch and doesn’t save the beats from being retrievable from any trance project. Worth a background.

Sleepnet - II (7/10) As impressive as the granularity of this project his, hearing this come out as the first thing I could describe as an Aphex-like only cements how little direction the Sleepnet project has, which is frustrating when tracks like Lapse hook you into the matrix pleasure nexus.

DJ Snake - Nomad (2/10) On par with the musical flexibility of Will Smith, one song that holds water simply because Space Laces made most of it, this is the peak of what we held to be the cardboard cutout people of festival DJ'ing, and I did not want to see it back.

Velvetic et al. - The Closure: Music from Eviternity II (10/10) Last year I gave The Origin a perfect because that's exactly what it was. It's now becoming clear to me that you could do nearly anything with the Eviternity II soundtrack and it will be the godfather of progressive rock.

Oneohtrix Point Never - Zones without People (3/10) Tired of this monkey typewriter music that is almost held together by an idea and then divergently sprinted away from because something else is immediately more interesting. Most of the buzzes and flushes feel like they're going to run off stage.

Chuksin Dead End - Intercurrents (7/10) Solid, formed and withered away, the sirens of distant goliaths are so well blended and there's always a point in the music where it has to wake itself up, as if to not fall into a final sleep. Pretty good, doesn't need to redefine a dead world.

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (9/10) One of my worst qualities is how much leeway I give terrible people. This seamlessly couples with ex-neo nazi Kanye West to turn into an appreciation of the tragedy performed by his life and his music.

Tomoya Ohtani - Stillness & Motion (cyberspace levels) (6/10) There isn’t one track in this subset that’s less than two tracks worth of ideas. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t, and I feel that it working is worth it sometimes not working.

Biosphere - Substrata (6/10) I can absolutely acknowledge and appreciate the effort in the way every track fades its seasons, lets its leaves fall away for the coolness of the coming winter, and still say that the sound design absolutely pisses me off on a primal level.

Evan Caminiti - Varispeed Hydra (10/10) There's a good deal of you that's out of calibration. Some parts just stop working for reasons we know and reasons we don't. We'll need to run some tests before we can move you along. Do try to relax.

Nathan Fake - Evaporator (8/10) A kind of charm and care that I would experience early in life when music was just starting to get beyond whatever bled through the radio. It felt like the whole project existed to set you up for "Slow Yamaha" to then cleanse everything that had been loosened.

Carpenter Brut - Leather Temple (7/10) Did everything it said it was going to do and not an ounce more. Not at all challenging, yet it's still a clear mastery of that synthwave metal clash that propels the vision of industrial future hell. Certainly no waste of time.

Sleepnet - First Light (7/10) After getting my face blown off by the first two, this album immediately creeps back to the pitter patter of Norwegian rave. I absolutely adore the sound design, but the momentum it built me up for ended up just not being there by the end.

SHXCXCHCXSH - SsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSs (9/10) I’m having dirt sprinkled in my ears, I’m hearing passing work shoes click against the floor, I’m feeling something bustling right underneath my feet. It’s incredibly easy to get lost in, and then immediately pulled out in the next track

Tipper - Cloaked (8/10) Closest I can imagine to a full brain massage, with far too many genres sifting through to pinpoint. A lot more uptempo dub near the end than the beginning set up, but that extreme flexibility makes Cloaked require a relisten, one that feels even better than the first.

Failure - In the Future your Body will be the Furthest thing from your Mind (7/10) Entry level Radiohead doing much more with the instrumentation than blend into the electronics. I wanted more of it to sound like Dark Speed giving off NIN but the rest of the album was good despite my expectations.

I34 - 34512314123912 (7/10) Pleasant, coolness of the earth until ironically "Nature" illuminates everything in a way only humanmade music can. This is an incredibly casual conversation to have as a listener, and you can probably bend the intent around whatever your current mood is.

Downstream - Spaces I (5/10) White noise for baby that's clearly just other songs stretched and soundless. There might be a point on emptiness in the surrounding wind and the failure for any of the tracks to be named, but the actual "music" doesn't make it worth thinking about deeply.
