I honestly think the reason there are a lot of incels who hate women is born from jealousy of women. Like, there are other ways they could handle those feelings.

AI may spread the ability to create these kinds of weapons. I think if the AI safety crowd would be better focusing on more plausible threats. Arguing some fantasy scenarios of rogue AI is silly when there are plenty of rogue people around willing to abuse AI systems.

MIT Media Lab’s Kevin Esvalt: “Russia's five-hospital quarantine, FSB involvement, and…hazmat use in response to the death of a single researcher at a weapons-lineage Irkutsk lab are inconsistent with a lab-acquired plague infection, which would have been treated with prophylactic antibiotics.

I don't think this is a legit use case but helping visually disabled people could be. The main issue I have with that argument however is that using a camera to describe things does not require storing video recordings. An image can be described using a single frame that is just stored in RAM.

The UK allows them to use its territory to stage attacks and then they can't or won't even defend it when doing so makes the UK a target. Does this seem like a good deal for the UK? Having US forces stationed in your country is a liability.

Idk, this is probably the most justifiable defence spending I have seen in a while. Certainly makes more sense than aircraft carriers and submarines given actual threats. Now if only they would scrap that other stuff we could be onto something.

I think it's fairly self-evident that ethno nationalism inherently racist. No one has a problem condemning white nationalists as racists. On a technical level Zionism is obviously racist. The issue seems to be people who support it have a hard time admitting they support some forms of racism.

I was wondering in what sense the Conservative party can legitimately claim to be 'conservative'. They have long since adopted radical liberal economics and abandoned any commitments to safeguarding heritage.

I have the Keychron K2 HE and it's my favourite keyboard so far. The railed magnetic switches are ridiculously smooth. Being able to adjust the travel distance is nice but I'm actually quite happy with the default actuation.

I sort of disagree with people returning perfectly functional items because usually returns end up in landfill. It's not particularly good for the environment.

A small mercy is that without being deliberately tampered with the default behaviour of LLMs is just to summarise the consensus across existing literature. This means the likes of Elon have to put in a lot of work to stop Grok being 'woke'.

Modern technology seems impressive until you realise a brain the size of a sesame seed can monitor acute sensory perception, master aerial acrobatics, navigate over vast distance and communicate through sign language. Oh, and it can also reason its way through a puzzle. Insane.

I have no idea what they are offering to anyone. Workers? Rights cut. Business? More red tape and obstacles. The right of British politics has basically no ideas of how to actually improve anything.

So, Tories would cancel Erasmus and youth mobility, scrap the SPS deal that reduces red tape, lowers costs and eases backlogs for goods trade and renege on our new energy, defence and security arrangements… Ridiculous threat, ridiculous party, ridiculous people…
Tories would reverse steps to undo Brexit

I can't say any of the recent generations have been particularly bad when measured against history. It's ironic that the guys we call 'the greatest generation' invented fascism and started a whole world war. Every generation since then has been a big improvement.

I'm playing the remaster edition and it's good BUT it's insane that there are still so many bugs in this game. I think I will need to go onto Nexus and see if there's a community patch.

trying my best to stay out of rape discourse because the past few years have already been very hard & it seems like 60% of people are cool with a world with a little rape in it but whoever this was invented “manic pixie rape girl in the lives of the men they helped improve” & that sucks. it sucks.
I don't mean to downplay sexual assault but l also have known a lot of good people who had to learn healthy boundaries by violating someone else's and never forgetting the experience

One thing that isn't really made clear to you before you leave home is just how much of adult life revolves around laundry. I mean, they say the grind doesn't stop. No mf, the grind occasionally stops. The laundry is relentless.

'We've decided that the shortages will persist into 2028.' would be a more accurate way to put it. When you are part of a cartel that agrees not to expand production to maintain prices you don't predict shortages, you plan them.

The Israelis kept waiting for the US to call a stop and were privately amazed when the US kept just letting them go further and further. I feel like Biden is one of the most culpable people for the genocide because basically any Democrat before him would have put a stop to it at some point.

I think if you had tried to make a film of Neuromancer when it was released it would have been difficult but the book has influenced so much culture since then that now every adult is aware of all the concepts it contains. You don't need to explain cyberspace in 2026.

I fucking hate how these arseholes are so emboldened now. It used to be they had to pretend to contrition but it seems like they have collectively decided public opinion no longer matters. They are acting like petty kings and we need to take them down and their companies need to be broken up.

The PSNI is such a disappointment. I remember having hope that it could be the beginning of good policing but the trajectory has been downhill rather than up, probably as old networks re-established themselves inside the org.

This is where empiricists disagree with rationalists. We think the person making the claims is required to provide evidence. The fact a vague claim about the future cannot be disproved is not evidence for it, just like I can't disprove the existence of God.

I have tried to get people to explain how exactly AI would kill a lot of people and the best they can come up with is it hacking a nuclear facility or a lab with viruses inside. IDGI because humans can already hack things and you can presumably use AI to also patch vulnerabilities as well as hack
