What this does to those of us with even the thickest of skins is pretty traumatic at the best of times. It wears you down and out.

Dunno the mechanics of it, but it's also been a very effective antidepressant for me. Neat to find out it's also why my anxiety hasn't been dialed to 11 🤔

Last push on this one :) A few more hours! Thanks to everyone whose backed and supported, and to everyone who shares (or has shared) links about this one. Proud of both all the asymmetry we put into it, and the work I've done specifically on making that asymmetry shine through in the solo mode.

I got an item from the US recently that had a border charge on it. It was a 60$ USD item, and the extra taxes were around 20$ CAD. But, I paid 42 because FedEx tossed a 22$ bundle of various brokerage fees on top. If UPS gives you a breakdown of that 42$ it may not *all* be tarrif, but some for sure

Oof that's rough. Meanwhile, I'm the kind of player who believes that all you need to run a server is a click. Anything else is a bonus 😂 but also, I probably would never top 4. Too much of an adrenaline junkie to be competitive 😂

Same! I respected shapers when I played and often built shaper decks for fun theory craft, but the play style always felt too safe. I'd rather flip a coin to see where I'll get more brain damage from: ice or my own rig 😂

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Hey y'all, remember when @deuxdel.bsky.social, @airy.bsky.social and I created a fun, powerful trans superhero in GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR? And it was the first time a trans character from the Big Two was a title character? And she had a awesome girlfriend? That was cool.

GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR by Jadzia Axelrod, Vash Taylor and Ariana Maher

A panel from GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR by Jadzia Axelrod, Vash Taylor and Ariana Maher, where pre-transition Taylor says "It feels impossible to be your daughter."

A page from GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR by Jadzia Axelrod, Vash Taylor and Ariana Maher, where Taylor sees her true self in the mirror for the first time.

The narration reads: I can do this.
I can do this.
I can do this.
I did it once already. I can do it again.
Don't think about what could happen.
Don't think about what people will say.
Think about what you want.
Wow.
This is me.
The jewel. It doesn't hurt.
I didn't realize how much it hurt until it stopped.

A panel from GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR by Jadzia Axelrod, Vash Taylor and Ariana Maher where Kat and Taylor kiss.

The narration reads: As good a definition of love as any I've heard.

So much this. I too have had therapists praise my resiliency and while at first it was a mark of pride, now I start with new therapy by laying down a boundary that I don't wanna hear that. It's not helpful, and fuck the world for making me have to be this way.

Ursula K. LeGuin: "American science fiction has assumed a permanent hierarchy of superiors and inferiors, with rich, ambitious, aggressive males at the top, then a great gap, and then at the bottom the poor, the uneducated, the faceless masses, and all the women."

If you deny any affinity with another person or kind of person, if you declare it to be wholly different from yourself—as men have done to women, and class has done to class, and nation has done to nation—you may hate it, or deify it; but in either case you have denied its spiritual equality, and its human reality. You have made it into a thing, to which the only possible relationship is a power relationship. And thus you have fatally impoverished your own reality.

You have, in fact, alienated yourself.

This tendency has been remarkably strong in American SF. The only social change presented by most SF has been towards authoritarianism, the domination of ignorant masses by a powerful elite—sometimes presented as a warning, but often quite complacently. Socialism is never considered as an alternative, and democracy is quite forgotten. Military virtues are taken as ethical ones. Wealth is assumed to be a righteous goal and a personal virtue. Competitive free-enterprise capitalism is the economic destiny of the entire Galaxy. In general, American SF has assumed a permanent hierarchy of superiors and inferiors, with rich, ambitious, aggressive males at the top, then a great gap, and then at the bottom the poor, the uneducated, the faceless masses, and all the women. The whole picture is, if I may say so, curiously "un-American." It is a perfect baboon patriarchy, with the Alpha Male on top, being respectfully groomed, from time to time, by his inferiors.
