The two coffee shop regulars who always use strangers to talk about themselves have run into each other. The convo is just each of them trying to cut the other one off to regain conversational supremacy. I love this.

The baby has started resisting his high chair and booster seat, insisting “big one!!” and taking my adult chair. I am supposed to sit one spot over, now. The pecking order is established.

Everyone on here gonna watch that firing squad live and write solemn substack pieces about how awful it was to watch such a thing live.

If you haven't listened to the exceptional @apmreports.org podcast IN THE DARK, which played a significant part in vindicating Curtis Flowers—thanks to an incredible woman-led reporting team—I can't recommend it enough

It's a shame you can't impact the economy via sheer length of pull request descriptions, claude, but keep trying I guess.

Baby is making 5 word phrases now—“big rock in the water,” “I want ball up high”—so he’s running like 10 months ahead on the language milestones. I look forward to reading his memoir.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but the autonomous vehicle developers who most vocally argued that society must accept a certain number of deaths to enjoy the technology's safety benefits (Tesla & Uber ATG) were the only ones who killed people and never actually delivered on their promises

I learned the chords for Twinkle Twinkle on the ukulele. I play it for the baby. Baby, 3 chords in: “no, all done.”

My insurance is trying to charge an extra $648 for my kid's birth (nearly two years ago), claiming they "retracted the original payment that was previously applied to the claim and then reprocessed the claim." So basically they just got up one day and decided they paid too much.

As I prep for another evening spent carrying my son in circles around a playground — he wants to BE here, but he doesn’t want to be put down by me — I think how cute, how long will this phase last, but also how exhausting, and actually is this bad for him?

Nobody will be surprised, but the language development part of babyhood has been my favorite thing. Today: “a blue car. Another blue car. A squirrel: one, two. A basketball. I want go up high. I go playground.” He’s becoming actually easy to understand.

Just out here trying to give our kid the best roadtrip home through a New England nor’easter possible. He pet a goat in Maine. He did an indoor playground in Mass. He “lifted” weights and beat a foam roller like a bongo in a hotel gym in CT.

Carrying baby in one arm, an open can of seltzer and a soccer ball in the other, wearing a diaper bag, obvi struggling, when a dude lets his offleash dog jump on me trying to get the ball out of my arms. Me: “HEY.” Baby: “doggie hit mama.” This generation of dog owners is actually braindead.

The agents clearly regarded what they were doing as hacking. Agents used file names like hack.rb, evil.rb, inject.rb, exploit.rb, and ssrf.rb. (SSRF stands for "Server- Side Request Forgery", a type of security vulnerability). They also dubbed packages

There’s something very nice, when my child looks at me with a scared face and says “what’s that??”, to be able to calmly explain to him “that’s just a drum line fronted by a guy in an Elmo suit.”

It would be nice to live in a world where the buzziest companies of our times were not constantly bragging that their invention might kill everyone as a marketing thing.

Bless that one person in r/philadelphia who shows up once a week with a new "analysis" of the philly school budget and the findings are always, like, administrators make more than teachers. There are more teachers than janitors. Prices of things have gone up.

Looks like this is heading for a deadlocked jury. Mass never should have brought this case, IMO, because in their state the burden is on them to prove a bipolar woman was not in psychosis during the crime and could comport her action to the law, which is too high of a bar here.
