I think they also suffered from having to work around Nicola Coughlan not being available much because she was filming Bridgerton

I don’t think I would trust a party that can’t add up a spreadsheet column correctly with running the country ever again! www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Tories overstate net zero cost by nearly £500bn in apparent spreadsheet error

Nice campaign road trip to help Salisbury Lib Dems with their must-win by-election - with control of Wiltshire County Council on the line!

The trouble would be if the multiple Lib Dems with spreadsheets that were at my wedding disagreed on the outcome

Move to the City and vote in that weird local election where corporations are people?

Ok this is the first time I've regretted not voting in that one (my postal vote lapsed, I was in London for work and didn't fancy the eight hour round trip... It remains the only time I've missed the opportunity to vote!)

In other words, a 10 percent contraction in one of Britain’s most successful exports. If it were steel or fish or other infinitely less profitable sectors, people would be having a meltdown.

None of this makes any sense unless they're planning an early election. An early election would be an insane thing to do given the war in Iran etc. But apart from LGR and Devo, what are they going to do for 3 years? It doesn't make any sense!

So far the Tories are going to abolish stamp duty and massively cut inheritance tax (and reintroduce benefits to high earners which probably won't cost) all paid for by unspecified benefit cuts' - they need to be asked exactly which cuts if this is to be remotely credible (it isn't)

This isn't true btw, I'm not sorry. I'm furious. This shouldn't be a culture war thing - these are people's lives we're talking about. It's grotesque.

Obviously engaging with this stuff is a mugs game but most people don't live 2 miles away down 60mph lanes, most people live in cities, towns, and larger villages. If the people that can, walk, cycle and use public transport more, it frees up road space doe people that can't - so they benefit too.

Laura Gordon @lauragordon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
We introduced 20mph zones in Oxfordshire and the numbers of people killed and injured on our roads has gone down even as the same figures in surrounding areas have gone up. Sorry to be a soggy liberal but I think that's a good thing.

It's boring unglamorous work too - you gotta make your lists and call round and think about who your contacts might know in Falmouth or Berwick and who they can call round. But if they're doing it, you have to do it too.

Strongly agree with this thread and especially this bit of it. Where cis Liberals did respond we've been able to push back eg the failed attempt by transphobes to take control of Lib Dem Women last year - but a lot of people did a lot of work to make that happen.

Labour could absolutely eat their lunch by just doing it though and it probably wouldn't even cost any money once you consider the scale of legal avoidance. Plus if Labour did it Kemi would probably oppose it which would give us all a much-needed laugh.

But fundamentally if you're the Tories and you don't have an offer for working age rich people then what are you even doing? Whether it'll help given everything else they're doing to repel this group 🤷🏻‍♀️ but they still have to do it!

(by not that many: if they had a wildly successful night and quintupled their representation that would take them to 25 which isn't loads in the context of 650)

Also in practice there aren't likely to be that many Green MPs so unless the maths is really tight it might not help, plus they don't have whipping so can't guarantee support which makes them less appealing as a potential coalition partner.

That said I have concerns that this could be weaponised by the anti-trans lobby (but it's fairer for people who don't have the resources to travel)

I don't think you can look at it in isolation - we have more robust processes to review motions and something like this wouldn't have got anywhere near the floor.

My point is that people who are allowed to have jobs have more power to demand more £££ and better ts and cs than people who are working illegally, not that exploitation by deliveroo is fine (it's not fine)

Demand a mini-debate on suspension of standing orders to allow people to vote online while standing up in the hall 👍🏻

Theoretically I suppose you could stand up in the hall and log in online and vote online but you'd probably have to pay twice

The motion passed at Green Party Conf' actively undermines a 2-state solution, and does not address the rising threats of Islamophobia and Antisemitism here in the UK. This is a divisive motion that pours fuel on the fire of tensions in the UK, and will leave many British Jews feeling less safe.

It kinda annoys me that Jake is treated as not a worthy winner. He clocked Linda, managed to not get murdered while guaranteed faithful, and successfully allied with the other guaranteed faithful player, Leanne. People are just salty because we all loved Kas and Alexander and no one liked Leanne!

Thought occurs that Jake and Elen were victims of this too, Jake was obviously metagaming with the 'doctor traitor' theory and Elen with 'strong female traitor'.

Let asylum seekers work: it'll fix a few problems in our labour market, save taxpayers some cash and mean we don't need giant asylum sites like MOD Bicester. Or we could keep being performatively awful to asylum seekers for no benefit.

This is also a really shabby way to treat people IMV, Sarah is hated. And they don't do it to the celebrities presumably because they don't want a furious agent on the phone - but they shouldn't do it to anyone
