William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Just opened a box of new YA horror, and it finally happened to me…..one of the books was written with genAI 🤮🤢 How do I know? It’s written in the verso, but there is nothing on the description on the vendor website to know it while shopping. It went straight to the bin! #TLsky #Library 031

William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 14/08/2026I’ve only been in my new school for 10 days. Kids come next week. It’s feeling like a place that is closer to the pro-AI side. How do you navigate being right about how much it sucks but still being expected to teach them how to “use it ethically”? 🙄 100
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 14/08/2026I spent the last two years in an early years library on what was basically a device free campus. I’m back in MS/HS and I am VERY curious about how teachers have changed or not changed practices because of gen AI 🤮 I’m sure not having enough time to practice hasn’t changed though 100
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 14/08/2026I don’t use either of those methods personally either. I always feels a bit fraudy telling kids to do it lol 110
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 14/08/2026What kind of note taking do you want to teach?! 110
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 02/08/2026This post made me love the Metis classification system even more lol 010
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 29/07/2026This hasn’t happened yet, but it’s only a matter of time before one of these slop buckets shows up as a donation 🤮🤮🤮 011
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 28/07/2026When a teacher emails and asks if you have a book, deliver it to their classroom. They love it. I also take other books they might also want but not know that we have. Oh and if you use Follett, download the app on your phone so you can check books out. Adults and kids think it’s magical lol 020
Reposted by William HMartha Hickson @sassylibrarian.bsky.social · 25/04/2026The new ALA Censorship Search Portal provides a vivid example of the scripted, insincere nature of book banning. Me & Earl & the Dying Girl elicited barely a peep of protest in the 8 years after its 2012 publication. Just 1 challenge. 1169

William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 09/02/2026I just read “Troublemaker for Justice: The Story of Bayard Rustin, the Man Behind the March on Washington” by Walter Naegle, Michael G. Long, Jacqueline Houtman. It was good! It felt like it was on the younger end of YA. 120
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 08/01/2026I used to do it all the time for my grade 11-12 students. Sometimes I never got a response, but if they did respond, they always shared the article. Many of them offered to talk to my students if they had questions. 010

William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 01/12/2025We live in Shanghai, so I have to wait for a digital release 😭 I’m moving to Zurich in July though, and some people on the interview panel heard you and Amanda speak at the film festival there earlier this year! Very jealous. 010

William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 10/11/2025Our shipment was delayed, so @bshum79.bsky.social’s “Mooncakes Mean Family” didn’t make it time for Mid-Autumn Festival, but his “We Are Lion Dancers” made it for New Year! A kid already tried to steal it off my desk before I cataloged it 🤣 it’s going to be popular! #BookSky #LibrarySky #TLsky 1226
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 23/10/2025We grew up in the country, so we were all on well water, but my cousins grew up in the suburbs. They were on city water, and they both went to the wastewater facility in elementary and middle school. 020

William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 10/10/2025I think this hits that sweet spot of browsable vs searchable. Kids can walk up and find topics easily, but we can also search for a specific book in the catalog and find it on the shelf now! #TLsky #LibrarySky #EduSky 000
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 10/10/2025Our nonfiction reorganization project is complete! We ditched the baskets and did a HEAVY weed. Now each shelf is spine out but only about a single topic. We had to change lots of call numbers to move books to the right shelf, but kids are already finding more books! 120
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 28/09/2025Starting fall break with Bury Your Gays by @chucktingle.bsky.social. Only reading this in the daylight hours because I don’t normally do horror 😂 #BookSky 020
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 25/09/2025Yeah I agree. I think Metis is uniquely wonderful for an early years setting. My friend did just reclassify her nonfiction collection to topic based whole word call numbers (inspired by Metis) and her circulation has increased wildly. Like some sections by 500% 010
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 24/09/2025Terrible! I reclassified my early years collection to Metis and it is SO much better. Circulation doubled because it makes sense to students AND, as a bonus, it’s not so heinously offensive. 120
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 22/09/2025We started moving the nonfiction books today! I love shelves that aren’t totally full 😍 Once all books are moved, we’ll do another weed for books that haven’t circed in 6 years. Then I’ll go through each shelf and start the Franken-Dewey so it’s one topic on each shelf #TLsky #EduSky #LibrarySky 030
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 19/09/2025Yaaasss. DDC is the worst, but I don’t have the staffing, time, or resources in this library to do a full reclassification to whole word call number. This is like the bootleg version of that lol. I reclassified our early years library using Metis, and it is amazing. Gottta ditch Dewey! 000
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 19/09/2025Franken-Dewey! I’m making each shelf about one topic. So it’s a lot of weeding and changing call numbers. For example, we’ll have a 305 shelf about community workers that I’ll put all the jobs books on. 110
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 19/09/2025Hahahaha it’s my fav thing to do. It’s like finding a time capsule 😂 I work in China and I just weeded a book about the Mayflower from 1969 120
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 19/09/2025How will we live without this book about American football from 1992? 😂🤣 #EduSky #TLsky #LibrarySky 050
William H @lankylibrarian.bsky.social · 19/09/2025The nonfiction reorganization is starting with aggressive weeding. It’s the low hanging fruit: damaged, duplicates, and extremely old. Once this weed is done and the books are back in DDC order, we’ll run a report for books not checked out in 6 years and weed those too. We just can’t find them now. 360
