This bird has been present for a couple of months by the time we in had a chance to chase it, it had become quite habituated to humans. Over 20 years ago and still the only bird I have chased using public transit.

Fort Jefferson is the largest masonry structure in the western hemisphere. It sits on Garden Key in the Dry Tortugas, 70 miles west of Key West, FL. I tiny dot of land at the mouth of the Gulf of Mexico. During spring and fall migration, thousands of migrating birds stop on the island to rest. They are often in rough shape when they arrive, usually put down by unfavorable weather. This leads to odd scenes like this secretive marshbird making the best of a bad situation.
