The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

Meanwhile in Russia: pundits rejoiced about Trump's approach to Greenland, which they surmised is "delivering a catastrophic blow to NATO" and is "truly tremendous for Russia." www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ThS...

Failing to anticipate people would use your image generation bot to make consentless-pornography should be criminal incompetence. Failing to include safeguards against it should be criminal negligence. Failing to shut it down once (a) and (b) became obvious should be criminal distribution.

The cool thing about having a political world view that's not a weird personality cult tied to one old man is that there's no one so integral to your policy preferences that whether or not to overlook and conceal their complicity in mass paedophilia is a hard choice. I really recommend it.

I find it interesting that all the 'peace' plans being touted involve demilitarising & disbanding Hamas. And yet even when world leaders explicitly cite Netanyahu as a violent obstacle to peace, not one of them suggests the necessity of his political exile. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/s...

NEW Has the government overreached in using terrorism law against Palestine Action? A disclosed MI5 document indicates that the basis for proscription may be weak By me, at @prospectmagazine.co.uk www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/law/th...
The New York Times has now published a document which sets out the government’s basis for the proscription. This is the “open” version of the MI5 assessment that has been placed before the courts in litigation challenging the proscription. The judges would also see a “closed” version with material not to be placed in the public domain.

One hopes the “closed” version is a far more impressive document than the one published, which is a flimsy and unconvincing piece of work. The assessment even admits—twice—that most of the activity of Palestine Action cannot be called terrorism.

The document overall reads as if it has been compiled backwards, intending to justify a conclusion that needed to be reached. If so, it will not be the first intelligence document to have been created in such a way.

The assessment relies on the group having caused “serious” property damage, which is the relevant statutory test. The problem here is that the spraying of paint and graffiti by the group does not meet the threshold of seriousness.

The document also relies on “open source” estimates of the cost of damage which, if one looks at the cited sources, trace back to a claim which the police themselves put to arrested protesters in interview. As such there is a certain circularity: the state is relying on the state claiming the damage is serious.

I can’t so much as buy a tin of beans without thinking about how our ruling classes are currently enabling a colonial war of genocide and mass starvation in Palestine. If our world had any shred of justice these monsters would rot in The Hague.

"In Gaza, human shields are used by Israeli soldiers at least six times a day...Today, almost every platoon keeps a "shawish," and no infantry force enters a house before a "shawish" clears it. This means there are four "shawishes" in a company, twelve in a battalion, at least 36 in a brigade. 1/4

It should be obvious by now that Netanyahu won't stop until every Palestinian in #Gaza (and perhaps the West Bank) has been murdered, maimed or expelled. He wants it all. Governments like ours should cut off all military equipment, diplomatic support and other relations until the genocide ends.
