Castlevania Belmont's Curse demo impressions: + Smooth controls + Good movement and attack sets + Promising ability/upgrade systems + Looks great + Tough - super short demo (30 minutes, maybe) - Rose runs a hair slower than it feels like she should Excited for the full game in two weeks!

I considered NOT installing the Castlevania Belmont's Curse demo because I'm definitely getting the game when it releases But I caved, gotta check it out.

Played a bit of this last night. I don't think I actually played it as a kid but definitely remember the marketing behind it. It's not bad at all, but would work significantly better as a twin stick shooter (see: Apocalypse). Lack of a zoom-out map makes things more tedious than they need to be.

Roll credits on Bushido Blade 2 #PS1 Cheating because it only takes like 30 minutes, but I finally gave this a try after picking it up a while ago. I feel like the original is better, but by the end of the story mode run I was having a good time with this.

Spent a decent chunk of time with two games today: Well Dweller: excited to play this but don't feel like playing for too long in a single session. MGS Peace Walker: not super drawn to sit down and play this, but can't put it down once I start. Not sure what this says about me or the games.

Star Wars Zero Company is a wonderful X-Com adventure wrapped in one of the better modern Star Wars stories. On PS5 it is also a buggy mess that left me constantly worried that the best crash or game-breaking bug was right around the corner. My review: www.talontrotgames.com/star-wars-ze...

Played about 90 minutes of Well Dweller. A fun, comfy Metroidvania. It has some interesting mechanics but nothing groundbreaking early on. Combat is tough but that's mostly me just learning the mechanics. Great visual style. It's on GamePass.

Metroid Zero Mission takes the classic formula of the franchise and offers a wonderful, condensed version of a Samus adventure. For me, it plays most like Super Metroid mini, which is a glowingly positive statement. Definitely worth 4-5 hours. My review: www.talontrotgames.com/metroid-zero...

Since I have to wait a few weeks for Control Resonant, I've decided to start Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. I have no idea what this game is, but I hear it is good. Since it carries the MGS name, and a PSP game, I assume it's an offshoot in the MGS style, not like a Metal Gear Rising situation.

Roll credits on Star Wars Zero Company #PS5. A great game wrapped in one of the better modern Star Wars stories wrapped in the buggiest PS5 game I've ever played. A true mixed bag, I recommend playing this on PC where I've heard much less complaints about the bugs.

On the last series of fights in Star Wars Zero Company, the game told me as much, and I had a boss fight where the sole objective was to eliminate said boss. After about 30 minutes I had him down to a few hits when my character force pushed him and he went through the wall. I couldn't him him again

Roll credits on Final Fantasy via Pixel Remasters. As far as old jrpgs with paper thin stories go, this was a fun one. The Pixel Remaster does a lot of heaving lifting here making grinding and exploring manageable.

Let it sink in that over the next four months we are getting new mainline 2D Castlevania and Metroid games from developers who are perfectly suited for the job. An embarrassment of riches for a certain type of gamer (me).

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Control Resonant Final Fantasy Resonance I didn't have plans to play any of these at release two months ago, now I'm certain I'll play all three as they launch...and not just for the meme! Plague Tale was great, I'm expecting the other two to follow suit.

Shout out to the latest Dinosaur Jr. album. I was never a fan of their early stuff but they've aged into a sound I can put on at any time and enjoy. Won't end up as my favorite album of the year, but it'll be one of my most listened to for sure.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy takes the series in a new, action-focused direction. While not offering much in the way of innovation, the game pulls wisely from its influences and injects enough Plague Tale DNA to stand out as something great. My review: www.talontrotgames.com/resonance-a-...

Played a little Treasures of the Deep this morning. A very fun underwater action adventure game in which you drive a sun through shark and enemy-infested waters. I was able to recover the Holy Grail gold but Montezuma's monster took me out on the next level.

Having a great time with Star Wars Zero Company but it's among the buggiest games I've ever played on a PS5. Twice today I had to restart missions because the game got stuck. I've had two hard crashes as well. Not great. It's a testament to the gameplay that I'm sticking around despite this.

Roll credits on Ace Combat 4 #PS2 Great game. Smart improvements from AC2 (the only other one I've played). Good variety, not terribly difficult, just a fun, breezy 4ish hours aerial combat. Turning into a very good series for me, I've got 5 and 7 waiting.

On one hand, I'll still get this at some point and I'm sure I'll have a good time when I do. On the other hand, this is shocking to see from an Insomniac game. Critical reviews obviously don't mean everything, but in the context of first party Sony single player games, this is a wild score to see.

Diving into Star Wars Zero Company. Enjoying it so far, I've played them here and there but never finished an X-Com (or similar) game. Looking forward to seeing this one through. Good, slow introduction of mechanics and the obviously strong combat make a nice combo.

Spent some time this morning getting crushed by R-Type Delta HD Boosted. Looks and plays great. I haven't played too many shmups but I definitely enjoy R-Type's take on upgrades, even if the "take one damage, die and lose everything" ensures I'm highly unlikely to ever beat this one.

The Final Fantasy Resonance demo is fantastic. A true throwback to the early era of the series, it is hitting all of the right spots for me. I don't need another game to add to my list over the next few months but this will be hard to pass up. Might make a good double feature with Belmont's Curse
