Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Soooooo... Digger is a good movie, but it is as "confounding" and "baffling" as others have said and I understand why the marketing was so bad because I legit don't know how to promote it without giving away the entire game. It's a pretentious film for film sickos, and I am one so I enjoyed it 000

Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 25/09/2026and yeah, there are some spec fic shows on there, but they're all "prestige shows", e.g. Game of Thrones, Severance, The Leftovers, Andor etc. Basically, it's like how, if Haruki Murakami writes it, it's no longer genre fiction, but literary fiction 000
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Since everyone is weighing in on what shows are missing: Interview with the Vampire Avatar: The Last Airbender Bluey But, as is tradition, the list is weighted against spec fic, animation, and children's shows 130

Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Weeb Wednesday take: Akira is a great film, but its legendary status also means we're unlikely to ever get a "true" adaptation of the original manga, which sucks because there's so much left to cover (However, the fact that the new Ghost in the Shell is comic accurate gives me hope) 120

Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 18/09/2026The decorations in Blazers were very cute, including the bathroom, which was covered in images from the SI "Bodies" issues. Just good vibes all around; I wonder what it's like when it's busier. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 000
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Game 3: Blazers, in Williamsburg. It was a Monday night so it was pretty empty. I think they have 10 screens, including a big one in the back room that has the baseball game on. Like two screens were showing Drag Race. I got a beer and a hot dog, which were both pretty good and affordable. 100
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 18/09/2026The vibes weren't very sports bar, more like "cute brunch spot that happens to sometimes show women's sports." But it did at least have a few people who were into the baseball game. ⭐⭐ 100
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 18/09/2026They had trouble getting the WPBL game on due to rights issues but I don't blame them for that. I do blame them for the fact that there are six TVs there and two of them were showing college football. There's also a projector that they rolled up the screen for immediately once the US Open was over. 100
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Game 2: Athena Keke's, which is in Fort Greene in Brooklyn. I arrived while the US Open final was in full swing and the place was packed so I left and ate elsewhere, coming back once the match was done. I ordered an NA cocktail and posted up at the bar. 100
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I posted up near the door and was witness to *four* different groups of men come in looking for the 49ers game and be turned away disappointed. At least one actually shifted shouted "where's the fucking football game?" It was basically this scene from the Simpsons and it was glorious. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 110
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Game 1: Wilka's, which is in Manhattan on Bowery. Probably the most "sports bar" of the three with somewhat plain decor and 20 screens. I got a beer and a sandwich, which were good. They were showing the US Open (Coco Gauff) and FIBA World Cup (US vs HUN) in addition to the baseball game 110
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I wanted to watch the WPBL but I don't have ESPN Select, which is how I ended up finding out there were 3(!) women's sports bars here in New York. Didn't know which one to pick so of course I tried all of them, one for each game of the semifinals between NY and LA. Impressions: 110
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 16/09/2026If this was really about fung shui, then the city could just swap out the planned trees for rain gardens, right? But it's not about the trees; it's about the (illegal) parking that this would block. 120
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 15/09/2026We also had the two PBS stations, but it was weird to just have no way to access the major networks until they got temporary transmitters set up. But even then, the signal was awful for months. My parents had cable but not in every room, and 9/11 is why they finally got me my own cable box. 000
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Something I don't see a lot of people talk about with 9/11 and the days after is that, at the time, the majority of networks were using the WTC as a transmitter. Once the towers went down, a lot of people lost TV service. Just static for days, outside of CBS (which transmitted from the ESB) 100
Kris Naudus @lampbane.bsky.social · 13/09/2026It's a shame that they seem intent on burying The Uprising, because it's pretty good! It doesn't waste any time getting to the point — you know that scene in the trailer where Andrew Garfield flips a table? That's in the first 10 minutes! 010
