When Gloria Steinem co-founded Ms. Magazine in 1972, the honorific “Ms.” was virtually unheard of. Unmarried women were referred to as “Miss [father’s last name]” and married women as “Mrs. [husband’s last name].” “Ms.” was an assertion of individual identity. Women who used it were widely mocked.

Every time that same portion of the press decries "cancel culture" they claim that it's out of concern for the targets, "what if they're driven over the edge by the cancelation," etc. I'm sure they'll find some excuse to speak differently about this.

I would like to see more companies admit this - being a public company no longer means running a successful, thriving business. It strictly means delivering growth to investors, every single quarter, who do not care at all about the product the company sells or the people who produce it.

The idea that adopting AI means doing layoffs is a sales pitch to justify replacing your payroll budget with an AI token budget. AI can perform certain tasks faster & cheaper than people but that doesn’t mean it can do entire jobs better than them. Smart companies are figuring out this difference.

There is NOTHING in this article about improving access to psychotherapy. SSRIs are a critical tool for addressing some mental health challenges. Therapy is another. Access to the latter has been dismantled by the insurance industry. (And you should ALWAYS taper when going off SSRIs…) Gift link:

“A whole civilization will die tonight” is the most vile thing a US president has ever said, certainly during the post-1945 era when they’ve had the power to kill civilizations with the dropping of a bomb. I’m staring into the darkness. May this not be one of the most fateful days in human history.

We need to explain it every time someone is in power. If we aren’t vigilant for our rights, they’ll be trampled with as much vigor as there is apathy among the people.

The attack on DEI shows why liberals should stop arguing about "strategic" use of language forever. DEI stands for three uncontroversial virtues that most every American accepts, and the right still turned it into a vile slur. It doesn't matter what you say - they will poison it because YOU said it.
