Archaeology is a powerful and pervasive theme in horror. Meddlesome antiquarians, cursed artefacts, empty tombs and ambulant mummies have been mainstays of fiction and popular culture for centuries, shaping public perceptions of archaeology and the ancient world.

The aim of the proposed book is to bring together critical reflections on uncanny archaeologies, to highlight the quality and variety of contemporary studies, and to encourage future developments and new directions in scholarship.

for some reason, i always think of the “a face, a false memory, a feeling” line. (this is from deadmuse, my 1920s manila gothic horror in which an artist’s muse wakes from death intent on solving her own murder)

I am only bits and pieces. A face, a false memory, a feeling. I am not Aleida. I am her after-echo, her ghost. Someone who woke inside her body and infested her bones, made a ruin of her skin.
I’m an orphan, a dead girl who pried apart her own grave. I doubt that I’m of any consequence to anyone save myself, save Adam.
I have no memories. I don’t exist beyond this room. I am nothing but the shadow of a dead woman, the rot inside her body, festering like a wound.
