I'm 😡 of being told I should take seriously these unserious people whose *only* skills are technical. Even worse, I hate living in a society that fetishizes, elevates, incentivizes, and materially rewards these very particular skills, despite their inverse correlation with other critical skills.

Anyway, the last interesting thing here is the way he describes his daughter as a General Purpose Nerd, and I think what he's describing here is probably a person with a humanities degree who has high levels of autonomy and confidence - which is exactly the thing people are no longer educated for
My other daughter is a bit more of a generalist. In the age of a new general purpose technology, AI, we need general purpose nerds, the GPN. The general purpose nerd is someone who can master the latest AI over the weekend. On Monday and Tuesday they can interview real people face to face and learn things. On Wednesday they can read a
50-year-old book that has not yet been digitised, make sense of it and figure out how you're going to use it. On Thursday they can run a podcast. On a Friday they prepare a one-page memo for the minister.
