Never a bad choice! Years ago I showed it to my 7th graders at the end of the year. They tried to be too cool to enjoy it, but 15 minutes into it they were hooked.

I did some detective work and asked him if it was atop the cabinets over his desk and he said yes. I told him I suspected it was in an AC draft, up that high. Living in Buffalo taught me that cold air will kill a plant fast, even in a hot room, especially something even vaguely tropical.

He also tends to just drop the new plant out of the plastic container in which it came and into the new, big pot without first loosening the soil and freeing the roots some. This is also a no-no, unless it's got a giant ball of roots, and this one did not.

This is not the move. 90% of plants would rather be crowded in a smaller pot than swimming in one too large. It helps the roots hold up the stems and the plant can put energy into making more leaves, which is going to bring in more energy.

I am proud to say that it's on the mend. I put it outside and gently watered it and it's looked better every day. It wasn't over or under watered, so I was confused. Today it looked healthy enough to be moved to a smaller pot. He has a tendency to put new plants in very large pots.

On Monday my roommate brought home a plant from his office that was next to death. He said I have a better hand for plants and asked if I could save it. I was flattered, bc he fancies himself a plant guy and is very competitive.

Sitting out on the porch, drinking an evening coffee, and there is a red-shouldered hawk circling and screaming, so no birds are coming out to eat, despite a new bird bath and fresh vittles.
