It's #fossilfriday! Here's a guy from HOW TO SURVIVE PREHISTORY: Arthropleura, a (probably!) herbivorous millipede relative that roams the coal forests of Carboniferous Scotland. Survival Verdict: YES. It's got a nasty nip, but we feel if you get bit, you have it coming.

SPIDER - 2026 My piece for @paulscottcanavan.com 's excellent Mastering Imaginative Realism course. it's the hardest I've ever worked on a single image and has been a total goldmine for technique, research and workflow. sorry if you don't like spiders, I found painting this very healing.

A western grebe (top) and Clark’s grebe (bottom) are holding each other’s beaks while swimming in a pond. Both birds have a white front, black top of head and back of neck, red eyes and gray back. The Clark’s eye is in the white part of the head, the western’s in the black part. They are not “kissing” but are fighting over a nest site.

Digital sketch study of a Northern Lapwing, also known as the peewit or pewit, tuit or tewit, green plover, or (in Ireland and Great Britain) pyewipe or just lapwing, is a bird in the lapwing subfamily. It is common through temperate Eurasia.

It has rounded wings and a crest. It is also the shortest-legged of the lapwings. Its plumage is mainly black and white, but its back is tinted green. The male has a long crest and a black crown, throat and breast, which contrast with an otherwise white face. Females and young birds have shorter crests and less distinct markings on their heads, but their plumage is otherwise quite similar.
