Goodbye, Didier. In the past years I've seen more and more people getting interested in your story, and that's already a small victory: I wish you were still among us, but at least you're not forgotten.

My brand-new #MotorSport column profiles ’70s/’80s #F1 ace Didier Pironi - who was very quick, very intelligent & very ambitious, but also impetuous, reckless &, in the end, fatally unlucky. Click below to find out more, including what might have been… www.motorsportmagazine.com/articles/sin...

Matt Bishop: How many F1 titles would Didier Pironi have won?

Didier Pironi's devil-may-care attitude brought tragedy and disaster to his short career. What could he have achieved in an alternate version of his story? asks Matt Bishop

1982 #OnThisDay, 3 July, Didier Pironi secured victory for Ferrari at the Dutch Grand Prix, finishing ahead of Piquet and Keke Rosberg. The win came shortly after Pironi survived a testing accident at Paul Ricard, where his car somersaulted before landing upright on the track. #f1 #Formula1

To celebrate Didier's first victory, here's the Autosprint pages about it! (yes that is a caricature of Didier dressed as the Gitanes lady. much to see in old motorsport magazines)

#OnThisDay 45 years ago Didier Pironi scored his first #F1 GP win, at Zolder, in this beautiful (& front wing-free) Ligier JS11/15. Pironi drove a faultless race, he led every lap, & he finished 47sec ahead of his nearest challenger, pole man Alan Jones (Williams).
