German Grand Prix, (qualifying), Hockenheim, 22-23 July 1988. Gerhard Berger's Ferrari F1/87/88C was undamaged after a high-speed spin. As was often the case during 1988, Berger was best of the rest behind the McLaren-Hondas, over 1.5 sec away from Senna's pole time. 2/6 © FOM #F1

Remembering Ted Toleman, born on this day in 1938. Founder of Toleman Motorsport, his team won the 1980 European F2 championship with Brian Henton driving. Entering F1 (1981-1985), Toleman's best F1 result was Ayrton Senna's 2nd place at the rain-soaked 1984 Monaco Grand Prix. #F1

#HappyBirthday to George Eaton, 80 today. A member of the prominent Eaton family, he became Canada's first full-time F1 driver, driving for BRM in 11 GPs between 1969-1971. Eaton's best finish was 10th at his home race in 1970. He also raced in Can-Am & Formula A. #F1

Remembering Paul Emery, born #OnThisDay in 1916. Designer of 500cc F3 cars under the Emeryson title, Emery qualified one of his own designs for the 1956 British Grand Prix, but retired due to ignition trouble. He later designed F1 cars for ENB, & Scirocco. #F1

Remembering Peter Whitehead, born #OnThisDay in 1914. Winning the 1938 Australian Grand Prix in an ERA, Whitehead started 10 World Championship races (1950-1954), finishing 3rd at the 1950 French Grand Prix. In 1951, along with Peter Walker, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. #F1

Remembering Vittorio Brambilla, who was born #OnThisDay 11 November 1937. Nicknamed “the Monza Gorilla,” Brambilla began racing on motorcycles, then karts, before joining his brother Tino Brambilla in Formula Three in 1968, eventually moving up to Formula Two. #f1 #formula1
