Kyle Morgenstein @kylem.bsky.social · 25/01/2025I think the bigger trap is to assume that a modular approach is the answer. For so many locomanip tasks the way we move our body depends so heavily on our environment + goals. I wouldn’t be satisfied to say “let RL handle task agnostic motion and just receive commands from a high level planner”. 170
Kyle Morgenstein @kylem.bsky.social · 25/01/2025For purely “move your body like this to location X” yeah I think current methods will scale. But once you start task conditioning (esp in human environments) I think it’s a lot less clear, both in terms of what behaviors we even want and how to specify them. 150

Raw dictionaries cannot be inspected without running the code and printing the keys. But data classes are basically self documenting! (And they can be typed). 1101

Kyle Morgenstein @kylem.bsky.social · 02/12/2024of course there’s lots of work showing *which* data matters a lot, but at these scales, actual moderation is virtually impossible so you just have to trust that the source is high quality (eg Wikipedia) 020
Kyle Morgenstein @kylem.bsky.social · 02/12/2024I wish media did a better job framing “scaling laws” for lay folks. they’re empirical best-fit models on a log scale. 10% more data doesn’t help you, you need 10x. 180
